Dang!! I hate to post my meager relics after Vern the Relic Magnet :sadwalk: Finds for 7-19-08

I had to get out and do some diggin' since my ear infections have fianlly cleared up a bit. I managed to find a variety, 4 fired Gardners, 2 fired 3-ringers, 2 dropped Smith carbines, 1 dropped carbine with rebated base I haven't identified yet and 4 balls. The dirt at this site isn't kind to...

    Finds for 7-19-08

My ear infections have cleared up enough so I had to go diggin'!!! I managed to dig an assortment, 4 fired Gardners, 2 fired 3-ringers, 2 dropped Smith carbines, 1 carbine with rebated base that I haven't identified yet and 4 balls. The soil at this site isn't very friendly to...

I decided to start me a bullet and cartridge collection

I have somewhere around 462 minies and carbines that I've dug but I thought it would be nice to purchase some good drops and some paper and brass cartridges and put together a collection a little at a time of all the examples that I can find and afford. It would be neat having them all in a big...

Finally took the SEF 12X15 for a short spin today

Haven't been able to do any diggin' due to some ear infections that just don't seem to want to go away. I couldn't stand it anymore so I took the SE & the SEF to a local park that has been really hammered like all typical town parks. I've personally hit this park with 7 different detectors...

Here's a few shots from today I thought I'd share

These are some pics of a cool insect called a Sphinx moth, hummingbird moth and hummingbird hawk moth. I thinks they look like part shrimp and part hummingbird. My sister and I call them shrimphummers. :lmfao: [attachment 97924 DSC0045450.JPG] [attachment 97925 DSC0045550.JPG] [attachment...

    Minelab 11" Pro Coil Mod

I came up with an idea on modifying my coil for the rough terrain that I hunt in. No more getting hung on all that stubble, stalks, weeds, sticks, stumps, rocks and etc. etc.... I used a bass drum head and cut it to fit between my coil and coil cover. I had to trim the inside lip of the coil...

Got my new SEF coil today!!

I got it on the 7th day after mailing my check. Thanks JW for the prompt shipping!! I went with the 12 X 15 size to start with but may get the 10 X 12 as well if I like it's performance. I really like how it has a flat bottom without all those holes like the Minelab pro coil does & it...

First field test on the 11" Pro coil at relic-hunting :minelab: :csflag:

I finally recieved my new coil yesterday so I took it for a spin last night in the woods and weedy fields. Well first thing I have to say is that this coil was NOT designed for the relic-hunter unless he just hunts freshly mowed yards and parks. If I had a $ for every time it hung up on sticks...

    Found this today!! :csflag:

My daughter and I went through the flea-market and I saw this laying on a table without a frame and just knew it would have a spot in my CW collection. I bought it for $4 and thought it was pretty neat showing the troops from VMI headed for the battle of New Market. Thanks for looking and HH...

    FRIDAY THE 13TH FINDS

Got out awhile yesterday evening to do a little exploring and run across a few relics. I dug some musket & buck balls, a fired Gardner, a carved & fired .69 cal. & a small gold ring that was in the same hole as a musketball. Does anyone recognize the stamp on the ring? ( Looks like "&" )Thanks...

ID HELP NEEDED   :help:

I posted this relic a couple of years back and had everyone stumped as to what it was. A few guesses were that it may be a gun part or used to lock a bayonet into place. It was found in a confederate camp with bunches or rebel relics. Here's some pics showing measurements and the weight in...

DAVE POCHE  AUSTRIAN .71 CAL. RAMROD TIP

Hello Dave, about two years ago I had posted pics of this ramrod tip and we thought it could be an Austrian because I had found a .71 cal. drop nearby. You asked if I could post some measurements of it so you could take notes of it for future reference. Well I had somehow misplaced it back then...

I would like to give Richard Walker a  on his relic book called Relics & Reminiscing Altho I'm still reading it so far.......

I am very impressed with the book. He has definately put the time in the field and the time in the production of this book. He has reminded me just how important it is to document everything because you never know when you might need that imfo that you've recorded. I chatted with him through...
