    Sword or Bayonet Scabbard Tip???

I was a bit annoyed when I unearthed this as I thought it an old tube of dried glue. Upon closer inspection it looks like the tip to a sword scabbard. Can anyone help to ID it??? [attachment 169768 ScabbardTip001.jpg][attachment 169769 ScabbardTip002.jpg]

    Can You Date This Spoon???

Found this spoon that I believe is pewter in the same area as my prior post. It appars quite old (see how the round stem is attached)...it's crumbling and I may have broken the stem during recovery, which I didn't realize till after I cleaned it up with soap and water. Thanks or any ID help...

Found these near each other on a site that yielded colonial flat buttons anda 1779 1/2 reale. hey appear to be pewter that has been gilted. I've only cleaned so far with soap and water. Each is about 1-1/2" in diameter. [attachment 169755 BridleDecoration1Front.jpg][attachment 169756...

More Colonial-Era Finds from the 1850's Homestead...

The following day I returned to property, hoping for a similar outing as the prior evening, but realizing that it would be a dificult act to follow. After aimlessly wandering around the property looking for new hotspots, my efforts were only rewarded with the wick holder to an old lamp, a brass...

Spanish Silver, Jacksonian-Era Hard Times Token, Colonial Relics, and More! :surprised:

I was able to get out and do a little detecting during my recent vacation. I got permission to hunt a yard which has on it a 1850's era house. Apparently this property has had an even more varied history than I thought. Some of you may remember my post about 2 weeks ago where I...

Bit of a Short Dream Hunt This Evening :surprised:

ot permision to detect this piece of property and headed out around 6 o'clock this evening. This property goes back to the 1840's or so I was told, but I wasn't really expecting to find much there since this general area hasn't yielded much. First signal I get as I step onto property is a bit...

    Lovely Old Enamel Pin

I got permission a few months back to hunt an old stone house that appears to date back to the mid-19th century. Like MontanaGold I'd been procrastinating for a long time, but decided to check it out today for a few hours. Within the first 10 minutes I found my first Merc in the same hold with...

Three Interesting Items near 1830's Barn and Some Old Houses

Hi, I found these three items last week where some old houses from the late 1700's - early 1800's were demolished - the old barn still stands and dates back to the 1830's or so. The torroid object is somewhat crudely made and so is asymmetrical - I believe it's made of lead and has a nice white...

    1830's Farmhouse: Hey Bulldog!

This was right near the surface where a 1700's house was demolished. I thought it was just a hunk of lead when I found it, then I saw the ears and it turns out that it's a very detailed bulldog made or pewter or lead. Looks like it has had the legs cut off and part of the torso. Face has...

    1830's Farmhouse: Lovely Brass Finial

This rang up as a penny and was surprisingly not very deep. It's some sort of brass finial or lamp component I believe composed of 6 Fleur de Lis and has really lovely detail - mid 19th century is my guess. Very hefty piece about 2-1/2" in diameter. Also found near by was a brass bell that...

1830's Farmhouse: Check and Misc Items

My first metal check with the number "46" - back is blank - there is "No" barely visible above the digits - it's a little smaller than a quarter. The other two items are lead I believe...the flat item appears to be manually holed and crimped near the bottom. Torroid is asymmetrical an appears...

    1830's Farmhouse: Change Purse Remains

Unfortunately no change in it or near it . This came in as a low growler in the foil range - I decided to dig as it is an old site. I was surprised to see the remains of this thing in the hole and I even managed to recover a small piece of original leather that must have gotten preseved...

    Coin from 1598 - 1621! :yikes:

I have been doing a bit of research on the Spanish colonial cob that I found recently on one of the islands a couple weeks ago. Thanks again to Eric in RI for the quick ID of a Maravedis cob! It seems that this coin is a 4 Maravedis from the reign of Philip III of Spain who was on the throne...

My Oldest Coin (?) & A Mystery! :surprised:

Hi Folks, Just got back from a weeks vacation at an island and I seem to have located my oldest coin by far (including my 1698 Charles II Crown found in England some years ago). This is well worn and only cleaned with some soap and water so far, but it seems to show a date of 1630 or 1650 or...

if I have a shallow silver or clad dime under the coil? This is a pet peeve of mine with my Minelabs as the high pitched squeal from shallow clad is terrible after a while and it is very difficult to tell the difference between a shallow clad and silver dime and sometimes even cents. I'm...
