    A Midget's Egg Cup & A Cool Red Lens

A couple more of the interesting relics from the old homestead yesterday. The first looks like a tiny little egg cup (for a "little person" - sorry didn't mean to offend any midgets out there :yikes:) - it's solid, concave at the tip, tapered then flared out with a flat base with a hole in the...

    Metal Hot Dog?!?!

Found this at the old homestead yesterday. Heavily worked piece of solid metal that came out of the ground fairly uncorroded and cleaned up very nicely with a brss brush. Not sure what type of metal, but it's quite heavy....it's not lead as far as I can tell. Any idea what it might have been...

Any idea what this is from? Very old lid of some sort from old homestead...

It was quite deep - same homestead where I pulled the 1869 IH cent and number of other old relics. This appears to be a lid of some sort. Note the design with two concentric circles of dimples and twelve stripes on either side of the circles - size is approx 4" x 5". Appears to be hinged at the...

Another Old Homestead - More Interesting Relics...

Found my first silver dollar yesterday at this site, but it was a fairly young one at 1966, but Canadian, which was an odd find here in NJ. That was followed by an 1869 IH cent, so this place has a little history. Here are some of the more interesting relics. Any ideas on the age of the lock...

Interesting Relics from the Old Homestead

The first relic that I found is the little lead (?) horse. The little guy is about an inch and a half tall and he's got lots of very fine detail. Notice how very finely (thinly) cast the legs are - anyone have an approximate date on this guy? The lock is very cool and appears to be made of...

My First Silver Dollar! :beers: (and a very old Indian Head cent too)

I put the little guys with beers in the title because I treated myself to a cold one when I got in! I've been detecting since 1999 and this is my first silver dollar! Skipped right over the half which still eludes me. I hunted an old home site that's boarded up. Looks like it was an old...

Interesting Pewter(?) Relic from Old House Site - Any Ideas?

It cleaned up well with a brass brush - lots of nice intricate detail on it. Any idea what it was used for. The cone shaped end is threaded. It's about 4" - 5" long. Thanks for looking

    Four Keys in One Hole!

Though not terribly old - they are not new either. Any ideas on the age? The two Briggs and Stratton keys are cool - smaller than normal keys and it was interesting to see GM on the same key. Are these collectible by any chance?

Another weird, but cool relic! Any ideas?

Found this a couple weeks ago at an old house site. I thought it was a piece of pipe initially as it was in the ground on an angle and all I saw was the end. It cleaned up very nice with a brass brush and I believe that it's pewter. The designs on it are very detailed and elegant. The inside...

1 Hour Recon at Boarded Up Old House Nets Relic and Drop of Silver (again...)

I've had my eye on this older house in town that's been boarded up and gave it a short trial tonight. Second signal was the 46S Rosie - just a drop of silver, but S mint marks are not that common around here. Pulled about 4 Wheaties from the 40's to the 50's so maybe this homestead is not that...

Since James ND got a little head while detecting it got me thinking: Is it time for us all to post pics of our nuts??? :yikes:

Now that I've got your attention: one of the things I admire and have found very helpful on the Beach and Water Detecting forum is that most guys will show a picture of their "nut." What's a nut you say? It's a picture of everything that was dug during that particular outing. Too often we...

Couple hours, couple relics and a drop of silver...

I lost my entire message twice already and I don't feel like typing it again so I'll let the pics of these relics speak. If anyone has any info on any of them I'd be much obliged!

Relic #4 7/19/2008 - Any Idea on Age of this Buckle?

Has a nice green patina - probably copper and horse tack of some sort. This piece was erroded through the ground surface today oddly enough. Does anyone have an idea on approximate age? Thanks, Erik

Relic #3 7/19/2008 - Geo Schmidt Mfg Cap Gun Parts

Apparently only from the 40's - was very near the surface at this site. Any idea what model it came from? Seems to be copper plated zinc. Thanks for any info.

    Relic #2 7/19/2008 - Any ideas?

It's wedge shaped (can't see this in the side view pic). The pointer is mounted in a slot and the dovetailed piece appears that it rode in a mated groove of some sort. The other end if broken off. Thanks for any info.

    Relic #1 7/19/2008 - Any ideas?

This plus seems to have been plated with a silver colored metal though I don't believe that it is silver per se. Thanks for any info.
