    No Coil message

Kapok, I switch between programs very often and don't recall ever having that problem in the 8 or 9 years I've had a Deus. That would drive me nuts if I had to wait. Not sure what would cause that delay. Is it possible the program you switch to was set up for your HF coil (if you have one)? Say...

Deus 2 most anticipated release ever..

Like you Calabash, I live close to the ocean but never beach hunt. I just might start though if the Deus II is as good as anticipated. The Deus is already a relic killer in the iron. It's hard to imagine the new Deus II platform being a significant improvement over the Deus in the iron. But we...

Here is something i do to make my Deus's easier to use

I do the same thing Gare. Definitely makes it a lot easier, especially when I am wearing gloves.

    Problems with Deus II

Todd some people aren't happy unless they are miserable. Hey , I could tell what the date was on a face down copper at 10 inches using version 3.2. and the black LF coil. I am sure this new fangled machine can't do that! ;)

Get Ready | XP Metal Detectors

Yep, I wouldn't worry about it either Tbone. You still have a great machine. Speaking of timing, when I bought mine some years back, a week later XP dropped the price by $250 ! Fortunately after I whined about it to the dealer, they gave me store credit for the difference.

    Just ordered my XP Deus

Agreed, stay with presets for a while. They really are good for most hunting conditions. Tones, tones, tones. Learn the machine with your focus on the audio rather than the visual. It doesn't matter if you use multi tones or full tones.......whatever floats your boat. The Deus is really at its...

    Nice find and different

That is a very cool find. Obviously not the cellar hole occupants' whistle. I can picture some well-to-do hunter taking a break at the cellar hole some 100 years ago and leaving his whistle behind.

    silicone cover

Picketwire, consider the armband. Not only keeps it clean, you can easily see the screen and you never worry about it popping off the stem.

    Elliptical coil

Ok, if we are dreaming of coils....I want an X35 coil 4 X 6 elliptical. I had a 4X6 sniper for my old DFX and it always sniffed out stuff in the iron that I missed with the larger Whites coils. Of course my old 9" LF Deus coil found a bunch of stuff the little Whites 4X6 missed in the iron. Then...

ID normalization do you ever turn it off?

Similar to abcoin, Mine is almost always OFF. When hunting cellar hole sites in lower frequencies with Norm = OFF, those high conductors will hit lower on the VDI scale. I can assign a low tone to 96-99 to help with the annoying iron wrap squeals and not worry about missing a big silver.

    Iron wrap around

Yeah, there are better approaches to this dilemma rather than using Notch. Instead of notching, use Multi Tones and assign those numbers a low tone. At least that way you won't Disc out those iffy signals altogether. You'll still have some audio to work with but avoid the annoying iron wrap.

    Question about EMI

I have a couple of sites adjacent to a high voltage power line. My old Whites DFX didn't do well there with EMI no matter what coil or frequency I used. It would squawk if I got within 100 feet of that power line. When I got my Deus, I was amazed that I could hunt until I was about 15 feet from...

    Hunting by tones alone

Tones can be fooled but as RelicMeister explains, TID numbers can be rather static and offer limited information as compared to the more dynamic properties of Tones. But a good TID hunter will always find more than a bad Tones hunter. ;)

    Hunting by tones alone

Personally, I haven't found an advantage to using Pitch over Multi Tones. Believe me, I have tried. I have done a lot of testing in the field. Any target that I have squeaked out of the iron with Pitch, I could also hit with Multi Tones....and vice versa. So for me, it just comes down personal...

    Hunting by tones alone

I agree with HuntingDog. Tone hunting for me....and listen to what my breaks are telling me. The edges of the breaks can tell you lot. If I look at the screen it usually just at the Mineralization bar. My soil is very mild. The Mineralization bar will light up when I put the coil over that nice...

New way to use Deus Lite

If you were looking to get more out of your Lite setup, you got it. I like the ingenuity. Simple and effective.

    Understanding the HF coils

Yes, Epsilon Lyrae. There is no way I could split the main double with naked eyes in my sky, even in a new moon.

    Understanding the HF coils

Good analogy Relicmeister. I had my Dob out this week and was able to split the double-double near Vega.

    Understanding the HF coils

I think the declaration should be modified to say that "HF coils have the POTENTIAL to separate targets better in iron". Frequency definitely has a significant impact on target separation but so does Reactivity, Sensitivity, etc. Here is my high tech explanation of frequency and target...

    Deus remote cover?

I wear mine on my arm, so it is covered. Most of the folks that hunt the woods like I do usually have a cover if they have the remote on the shaft. It is tough as you say but the cover helps prevent scratching.
