    Carl design question

I guess you mean like the Classics? We didn't look at that, and I'd guess that there would be little difference in the balance.

    How much usable info...

Many targets follow that general correlation between frequency and VDI, but some do not. Bottle caps have been mentioned; they may ring in the 80's on a DD coil, but hit strongest at 22.5k. Sometimes certain target signatures can be distinguished by relative amplitudes of the 3 curves. Or...

    Why Was The Vision Produced?

I think you'll get far better information listening to the people who buy a new detector, than from the manufacturers. Might also want to give one a whirl... nothing like hands-on. One thing to clarify... Vision is not a spin-off of DFX. It was designed brand new from the ground up. If...

DFX Big Foot on the "V"

My Bigfoot works, even with TX Boost on, but the 22.5kHz VDI's are skewed quite a bit high. This means that low-conductive targets will have a high VDI; ferinstance, a nickel came in at 60. But with V, you can create a program for the Bigfoot, and customize the disc, tones, and icons to match...

    Color Display Question....

Rotate them while watching the screen.

    Color Display Question....

...polarized sunglasses. The very first time I took my V out I had on polarized sunglasses. I thought, dang this display is dim, backlight doesn't help, why the heck did they pick this display... then I tilted my head and it got brighter. Duh. So I went out and bought non-polarized sunglasses...

    Fast processor ?

V uses an ARM9 RISC microprocessor running at 112MHz. Recovery speed can be set quite fast, I'll let non-partisans respond to this. - Carl

Coil ? for some one from whites

No, coils for other brands won't work on V.

Coil ? for some one from whites

The 10"DD, 950, and 300 (12") loops are all currently V-compatible. The 4x6 Shooter, 5.3 concentric, and 6x10 DD coils are next in line. We are currently checking the tuning on the Shooter now. There is a slight problem... loop production has been running so hot on keeping up with V orders that...

    To White's engineers..........Rumors persist........

Sorry, this simply isn't true. Someone is feeding you bad information. - Carl

    To White's engineers..........Rumors persist........

White's had nothing to do with posts getting pulled. In fact, I personally asked that it stop. - Carl@White's

    MXT coils with Vision????

Typically mixed mode will give a little more depth with the all-metal signal, but won't affect the depth of the TID response.

    3X6 DD Coil

Not souped up, just nulled & tuned to a higher standard. An older Eclipse coil will work the same, except it may overload with TX Boost turned on. - Carl

    MXT coils with Vision????

Deep Silver is set up in mixed-mode, so the response you are hearing for the sub-65 VDI's is the all-metal response. You should not get a tone ID, though. - Carl

    Why Was The Vision Produced?

One reason is to push the envelope of detecting technology. How many times have I heard that detector companies are just rehashing the same ol' designs with new paint jobs? V is clearly not that. And, yes, people have been asking for color display, wireless headphones, and better target ID. I...

    Comparison testing... my views

First of all, yes, I work for White's, and Larry was a Vision field tester. But I have not, and do not, ask anything of Larry that is partial towards White's or Vision. He is free to do and say as he wants. I understand some of the arguments against comparison testing, but it doesn't matter...

    HEAD PHONES MUST DO !!

Those holes don't actually go through the plastic, so water cannot get inside that way. The headphones were designed to be completely rain-proof. - Carl

    VOLUME??????

The volume issue has been noted. We (White's) need to figure out the best way to fix this for customers. We can either do a software fix in the detector, or a hardware fix in the headphones. There are drawbacks to either way. I will get everyone together Monday and decide what to do. - Carl

Let me get this straight...Hunting by sound.

No, sorry, it won't. You will need to dig 99 pulltabs for every ring. This is the bane of all detectors... you want rings? dig everything.

Let me get this straight...Hunting by sound.

Even if you make a nickel sound like a dime, it will still VDI differently. The tone would just be a personal preference.
