    Ground Phase #s

AK is correct, the "severity" of the ground has more to do with the signal strength than the phase. The phase tells you composition (between purely ferrous and purely salt), while the signal strength tells you the concentration. - Carl

    Spectra and rain?

The pod has a gasket and is rain proof, and the main box has a gasket. The weak point is the headphone jack and the battery door. You could slip a sandwich bag over them if it's raining a lot. I've had mine out in the rain with no ill effect, although I did have a scare when it suddenly went...

    Spectra and rain?

The speaker is mylar and is sealed so rain getting in the holes won't hurt anything. Nevertheless, I usually place a nice neat square of clear packing tape over the speaker. - Carl

Spectra V3 Microprocessor Sales to US Blocked by ITC Order?

Not quite sure why anyone outside of White's would be concerned about something like this, but... there is no concern. We are well-stocked for the long haul, even with better-than-expected sales. - Carl

New Whites V3 - Test Drive - V3 Story Booklet

Still thinks he's using a 6000/d. We're trying to slow him down.

    Spectra... first thoughts

Generally, we no longer fix any models with vacuum tubes, but will try to fix anything else. Most detectors from ~1980 and newer are not a problem (with the exception of a few truly obsoleted parts we simply cannot get) and we have a specialist who can usually fix models back to the late 1960's...

    Firmware question

Software upgrades are free, there is no chip upgrade (they are all the same). If the audio phasing doesn't bother you, then I wouldn't bother with an upgrade as there are no other changes. - Carl

    Big Foot 4R the V

White's is not involved with the Bigfoot coil. It is custom made for Jimmy Sierra, one of our distributors. There was talk of making a V-Bigfoot, but I don't know what the status is. - Carl

    etrac vs v3

As a White's employee, I should just say "V3". But that would be Bad Advice. New detectorists make 2 common mistakes in buying their first detector: 1) They buy a $99 piece of junk from eBay or the local BigMart, or a bargain 70's model from eBay, and get completely frustrated at finding trash...

    Real find?

Cool find, but sorry to say it's a replica :(

    RX Sensitivity and Probe

Hi Jerry, Haven't seen your name in a while... I stopped by your house a couple of yrs ago and we chatted detectors. Good to see you got a V! If you Zoom on the Ground Tracking control you will see a Ground Probe readout that has the phases for all 3 frequencies. Be sure to Zero the screen. The...

    RX Sensitivity and Probe

It just means the probe is not nulled as well as we null our coils. The increase you see on the probe readout is the contribution of the probe mis-null. It's really not a big deal if you are running at the recommended gain or even a few clicks above. - Carl

    Vision Auido ?????????????

Mickfin, We've determined that because of the way stereo audio is being generated, the L & R audio can occasionally be out-of-phase. This results in what some people have described as jumping between mono and stereo, but it's really all stereo, they're just hearing some phase rotation. It...

    Vision Auido ?????????????

If you hear a fading problem using mono headphones, we can explain it. If you hear it with the speaker, we can't explain it. Yet. - Carl

    Vision Auido ?????????????

Mickfin, AK got some time today to dig into the fading issue. Would you, by chance, be using plug-in headphones that run in mono audio? - Carl

    Vision Auido ?????????????

    Sorry, I don't.

First time out on the beach with the V3.

Also, the 950 does run quieter in salt, it does not false with impacts. Falsing in salt seems to be universal with DD coils. - Carl

First time out on the beach with the V3.

I think they are running a batch in the factory now.

    Vision Auido ?????????????

I'm not sure what the problem is with fading in & out, I haven't seen/heard this happen on any machines. We are, however, aware of the stereo/mono issue and are looking into this. If you have a problem we've never seen and we cannot replicate it, then the only solution may be to send it in so...
