    A few bits

Not much in the way of coins in my last couple of outings, a few from the 40's. I like the old womans hat pin and SKY ROADS FLYING CLUB piece though. If I hadn't dinged the brass horse collar piece I'd keep it. But it was a borderline keeper anyway so it's gonzo.

    First silver of the year

Good day gentlemen. The ground is basically thawed out for the most part here now. So I have been doing some grass strips along the sidewalks the last week or so, when I can. I am delighted to say that my first silver of the year has a few years on it. I came across a strip that was chewed up...

    Keeping busy

Good day to all you fine folk. It is still likely about a month before I can swing around here. But maybe I can hit a few tot lots until the ground thaws. Last fall I fell down a hill and mashed my middle shaft. And a replacement was shipped today. To keep busy this winter I have been taking...

    Get your new permissions now

Any new folks out there may want to start making phone calls now, to access areas that need permission. It saves a lot of scrambling around later. And around here farmers are like one armed paper hangers in the spring\fall. Be friendly, open, and fully explain that you will respect their land...

    Not much happening around here

I've been out looking for bottles along the local creek bank and only found an old hammer head. I zapped it and it has no markings. I've been out a couple of times for snow hunts and found a few bits, it was fun, here's a few pics. I'm trying to zap the rust off of an unusual toy gun...

Personal safety while detecting scruffy areas

How can I word this without sounding too paranoid ?......... The longer I detect the more patterns seem to turn up. And one of these patterns in different towns is that quite often the oldest areas are the seediest. Not always, but often enough. I have been pondering precautions such as only...

    Just farting around

Nice to see folks still out and about. When the snow hits I usually switch over to practicing outdoor skills such as rabbit snaring, making fires with local natural materials, bush craft type stuff. Not saying that I'm the cats meow at it all, but practice makes better. On my last romp...

Last finds of the year ?

Well fellas, we have our first little blizzard of the year outside right now. So I'll post up my last finds. I did much better overall last year but that makes sense as sites slowly get picked over. I look back on the year and see that I only took my Tejon out twice, which says something about...

    Hobo Camps ?

Has anyone here detected a Hobo Camp from the depression era ? I peripherally heard reference to the ''Hobo Jungle'' on the edge of town by the tracks here. I was too busy to follow up and forgot about it. But yesterday I was able to get out there for a bit and saw depressions in the ground were...

    Neat war nickel

I got permissioned today to check the yard of an older house, so I gave r, a whirl. Nothing really old or silver, but it was still great fun. This is only the third 1943 Tombac war nickel that I have found and to me they are just too cool. Canada was pumping nickel into the war effort and the...

Now and then I will be commenting on someones finds, and I get a pop up from the site stating '' possible hack attempt''. I then get bounced out of the system. And it usually includes my attaching an emoticon. Is this happening to you ?

It's that time of year again

It can be as simple as this, or include a vest. Don't stop a bullet or arrow.

    Hey John-Edmonton

I found a variation....on the left. No whoop-de-do, but I usually toss these new game tokens, then this thing appeared.
