Not much at the Lake Michigan beaches, everyone here pays with smartphones and don't wear jewelry.

That would most likely get you put in jail. A couple of the nearby jurisdictions have outlawed metal shovels on the beach, but at least put in the code "readily available gardening tools" so as to exclude metal detecting scoops. I did have beach patrol watch me digging a deep hole looking for...

Pliers were the best find of the day

Watched the Pelicans glide over the waves and dug some targets. Saw some people on the beach in bathing suits ... not me, 50 degrees F is a little cool for that for me. The pliers cleaned up enough with a water rinse that the jaws close all the way very easily. This pair is going into my tackle box.

Not much at the Lake Michigan beaches, everyone here pays with smartphones and don't wear jewelry.

In Myrtle Beach area they are talking about starting replenishment again ... thing is that the last three storms have pushed sand up onto the beaches. Some of the dunes got flattened and spread out, but the steps and fences in most of the beach entry areas have more sand than they did after the...

3rd outing with CZ7aPro - getting back into the swing

Knowing the machine and what it is telling you makes a big difference too. For several years, the more time I spent with a CZ, the more good targets I could ferret out from near iron and the deeper I would be digging targets. CZ platform is relatively easy to set up too, so that helps in being...

Pulled the trigger on an Ultra.

Call them and tell them. It has been a while since I've bought from them, but they used to make things right when told about an issue. Hope they still do.

    Excalibur parts

Anderson Detector Shafts is one source. You can go to the on line auction sites and find others that might be a little less expensive. In a quick search I did not find them from one of the forum sponsors. If I'm wrong on that I hope someone will correct me and say which sponsor has them.

    5 kHz ABYSS

Will be interesting to hear reports on how well the discrimination works. On low frequency detectors I've used in the past, the discrimination has not been a very sharp cut-off.

    1st cell phone find

I've got a drowned iPhone found in the water a couple months ago. Verizon is advertising a new, latest iPhone when you trade in "any iPhone in any condition" ... I hate cell phones and don't carry one, but I might just see if they really mean it and will take the drowned one in for the deal.

    Help for a CZ 7a

Standard AA cells are 1.5 volts and will work just fine. The rechargeable NiCad or NiMH are 1.2 volts. I have not used rechargeables in any of my CZs so I can not speak to that.

    Help for a CZ 7a

I haven't used that model.; but as Tony said, it is a CZ and should act no differently. I was looking for that model a few years back because of the AA batteries. Much cheaper to feed it AA batteries than 9 volt cells.

Happy birthday Harold! (If I wait four days I will probably forget).

Have 8” and 5” (waterproof?) coils for my CZ7a Pro. What would I gain by buying a 10.5” coil for it?

I found the 10.5 inch has too much water drag for me to use in the water and thus use the 8 inch coil. On the open sand the 10.5 covers more ground and is a little deeper; although the 8 inch coil is very good. For land hunting I nearly always use the 8 inch coil and found few places I'd...

    Kitty Hawk, NC. Detecting

The amount of sand movement in the OBX is incredible. Every day can be an entirely new adventure.

    Kitty Hawk, NC. Detecting

Nags head and north are OK. South Nags Head, where the National park starts and south are no go. Way up the north side in Corolla, heading north, where the Currituck Banks Reserve starts and north is no go. Kitty Hawk ocean front is just fine! If you go, enjoy it! Here is a nice little 10k ring...

    Anyone ever encounter this problem??

Try a mix of vinegar and salt. Seems to work well on coins and silver. I've even cleaned up a good percentage of eaten up zincolns enough to get them through a coin machine. Rinse with water and baking soda after the vinegar and salt.

OBN, What is the gold count this year??

The two old silvers I've found here in South Carolina are in amazing condition. The Morgan dollar was I think three years ago and the dime was several years back. Both on vacation trips here before we moved. The bay sure does eat the silver. I've had silver rings that came from the community...
