I had bought my 6 year old granddaughter Emily her own headsets with volume controls in hot pink and purple colors. I...

A Short 1 1\2 hour hunt with the Pioneer 505

Weather was nice today, so I decided to go metal detecting before going off to work. Which detector should I use? Choices, choices, choices. The Legacy 3500 or the Pioneer 505? For land detecting, both detectors are almost an even match with the 505 having the edge of a few inches deeper in...

Searching a site again using my Legacy 3500

While I was waiting for my wife to get ready for an outting, I decided to take my Legacy 3500 out and search a nearby site I had gone over before with my Pioneer 505. I didn't have lots of time, so I only took a short 10 minites to do it. I quickly located 2 targets that sounded off in the 10...

    Masking

Have you ever had your detector sound off on one target, dig that target and also find an additional or multi targets that your detector did not sound off on? If so, you have experienced something referred to as masking. Masking can occur for many different reasons including the following: 1...

Went out for a quick hour and a half hunt with my Legacy 3500 before work today and found 1 clad US dime, 3 copper US cents, 4 zinc Us cents and 2 copper Canadian cents. Ground here is finally drying out to enable me to do some digging without the holes filling up with water. The pinpointing...

A Quick Hunt Before Going to Work

Felt like a little fun before going off to work, so took out my new Legacy 3500 for a short half hour hunt at a RV park. I saw a vacant RV spot that I'd hunted before with my Pioneer 505. In a small area no bigger than 5' X 5', I got mixed signals close together but they were repetitive. So I...

    A Banner Half Year

2013 has been a great year for me and my Pioneer 505. Air tests of search coils

I've read many posts in the MD forums about air tests of search coils. Come on guys, when have you ever found a coin in the air with your metal detector? About the only thing air tests tell me is how far away a coil is capable of sending and receiving the magnetic field to a given target. Air...

    Another First

I just achieved another milestone, another first. I found my first half dollar today, a 1977 D JFK. At first I thought I was getting a false signal because in the past most of the time when the Pioneer 505 sounded off and indicated 50 cents the signal would jump around between that, a dime...

It's rainy season again here in the Pacific NorthWest and it has been raining steady the past few days. I haven't been able to go detecting because of the rain and I'm starting to get those rainy day blues (sort of a depression). Anyone else experiencing the same kind of thing?
