    This is crazy!....:cam:

I'm gettin' older and really tired of trying to sort out the different signals-rechecking them by lifting the coil, etc. So I got lazy for a few days and set the Ace on sensitivity #2- I air-tested and got coins at 3-4" and just wanted to have a couple of lazy days of just skimming the surface...

    5.75" widescan coil.......

for the umax models? All I see are the concentric advertised. The HOT technology detectors have such a coil, however. Thanks. Also, if anyone has compared the two=widescan vs. concentric I would appreciate the results. Thanks.:help:

    Ace 250 finds a turtle!....

14K gold one, that is! I was in a tot lot and in the Relics mode w/sensitivity at #4 when I got a two-way "foil" signal. It has two red stones for eyes, and 4 diamond-looking stones around the clasp. My Silver umax gave a weak signal in lowest disc., as did my Royal Sabre. My BH Tracker gave...

    Found a turtle w/the Ace!

14K, that is. I was at sens. #4 in the relics mode, since I was in a tot lot. Gave a quick foil signal both ways. I don't think it would've been picked up in jewelry mode, but I forgot to check. Other detectors in car gave a weak signal, and one wouldn't even pick it up. It has two red stones...

    Oh my gosh!:cam:

[attachment 120769 HPIM0065.JPG]What to do now? I found my Walmart version of the Tracker all apart and decided to rewire it and ended putting on a 4" coil from a Tracker I once had. As you can see, I haven't even put the knobs on! I had to set the disc. with a nickel before I started hunting...

    Sponsor's forum?

I notice that other forums have a special place for sponsors where members can search their products and e-mail them or whatever. Considering the tragedy and misunderstanding recently experienced, would such a forum spot benefit this forum?

    Vacation!:cam:

Had about 4 hours after I left my wife shopping (I thought) and went to my favorite school in a nearby town. I had my Silver umax on min. disc. and since it had been a while I thought I would just clean the area up again. Found this -about $9.50 in a couple of hours-then she called on the cell...

    Vacation!:cam:

Had at least 4 hours(I thought) for my first hunt at my favorite school in another town. Got started, and after a few hours found this (and about 50 pencil erasers!) Then my wife called and since it was also our anniversary  I had to run and pick her up for dinner out.

    Here's the follow-up..

Turns out the ring labeled 14kp WAS gold. The post on the spinner ring I found is sometimes made will steel bearings and hence the reason for the magnet failing the ring. KP means plumb-plumb gold! Pure and simple.

    ED 160?

I just read a post where the Golden Umax has more like an ED 160 range instead of the 120. Would that be about the same as my Royal Sabre? Doesn't the Golden have an a/m mode w/tones? Has anyone ever set the disc level at min. and noticed if foil is automatically rejected? Thanks.

    Just a little tip....

Went to cash in (I thought) a ring with 14KP on it-that means "plumb" which is supposed to mean "the real deal". They very first test they tried failed it- it clung to a magnet! I also tried this test on some other doubtful pieces I had-a crucifix I found, for one- and it failed them. Hope this...

Question for Monte or Tesoro user:

I keep my old Royal Sabre around that I purchased from another guy and use it in high trash areas. Such was the case today-but I ventured from the trashy sidelines of an old football field now used by joggers back onto the playing field surface that I had previously hunted with my Silver umax...

    Things got hot today.....

[attachment 116524 HPIM0062.JPG]For my Silver umax, anyway. Went to a little place where they hold little carnivals and hit a hot spot about 20' X 20'. Almost every signal was smooth and round. Got to experimenting and found out I could set disc where foil just "crackled" and get by all the foil...

    The feathered edge.

This has been a project of mine-and the fact that Tabdog uses it to some extent has further encouraged me. First off, let me state that pulltabs, screwcaps, and SOME pencil erasers defy the rules to some extent and this is only intended for those who like the foil discrimination settings to have...

Here's what the NEW Ace should have......

Instead of the "bong" they should replace it with the High tone as on some of the GTA's where you could choose either standard or belltone. That way, the iffy targets wouldn't make your brain go "boing-boing" when you hear the signals, and the more bearable high tone ID would still help ID the...

    "Booped" a neat bracelet...

Running my Ace in my favorite mode-Relics. Got down in my competition mode with the coil flashing at somewhat faster than usual speeds-and since I pinpoint in motion I was flyin'. Had five tot lots in area schools to hit before work. Found over $6 in coins and got the "boop" sound for very...

Thought I'd done it this time....

I had installed a "tab check" similar to the one in the Troy detector, so smarty pants me wanted to really sport my stuff and reset the g/b via power ground balancing as per Monte and Tabdog. Well, I reset the buggar and all of a sudden I got nothin' coming out of the speaker! After looking, I'd...

    Probe ID....

Has anyone ever noticed that the screwdriver can be used as an ID tool? Usually the quarter can be ID'd because of it's heft and size-the dime wants to keep moving around and is harder to get a point on it-pieces of aluminum sound "tinny" and kind of make a scraping sound-sometimes you can...

    Question for Tabdog:

I asked this on another forum you posted (metal detecting forum) and I guess you haven't been there to answer. Does that ring you found (registered at iron) give a signal on your Silver at min. disc? Just curious as to whether the min. disc. on the Silver was close enough to iron to pick it up...

    Uncle Willy, please explain....

You advised to use the coins mode to avoid junk. Then down just a few posts you said that you wouldn't miss rings, that they would show up as foil, tabs, etc. Now I'm pretty sure I know what you meant, but you said you had 200 rings and I would sure appreciate knowing how you use your Ace, find...
