    Took the Silver umax out...

School's been in session for about 2 weeks now-since the holidays. I'm having to wait longer 'cause no one's getting out in the weather-schools or parks. The middle quarter size coin has "Commonwealth of the Bahamas" and 1991 date with quarter value. Thanks for looking.

Ace/Tracker combo falls short of 100 coins....

I had a special park picked out for the Tracker. It turned out to be tab hell, so for an hour I switched to the Ace w/sniper coil and notch. Thought it was gonna turn out to be a zincsalot hunt but finally the other coins started coming. I did have a ball at a local school the last half hour...

Second attempt at 100 coins falls short....

Well, I was too lazy to change coils, so it was a joint effort with my Ace and the Tracker IV., I feel I wasted too much time checking some signals with the Tracker=the place was full of screwcaps, large metal. So-o-oo, out comes the versatile Ace w/sniper coil and my favorite customs mode...

Hey, Dancer. I did it! 103 coins....

It took some preparation today, though. First-off came the stock coil and on went the sniper coil. I was gonna get by fences, posts, sidewalks and tight places I couldn't reach with other coils or detectors. How effective is the sniper? Well, at one of the tot lots I searched last week, I found...

    I thought this was funny......

Went to sell the small 14k ring I found with the Ace 250 and another small piece of gold, with a few pieces of silver. The total? $250!

    Ace 250 finds 14k gold..

In a local tot lot in Relics mode, sensitivity at 3 bars. Hit with a strong mid-tone and locked on at nickel. Has a middle blue stone surrounded by 8 diamond-looking small stones. Woo-hoo. Will have it checked out. Thanks for looking.

    Ace finds 14k gold ring-beauty

In a local school tot lot-Relics mode (my favorite), sensitivity 3 bars. Hit with solid mid tone and locked on easily at nickel. Has a blue stone surrounded by 8 diamond-looking stones. Woo-hoo. Also found a tiny earring (not pictured-not valuable) with the iron "boop" sound. Thanks for looking.

    Silver umax/Compadre day...

Well, I got the day off-but of course the schools were open and all my parks have been dead. I read on the Garrett forum where a ring was lost and a bunch of guys couldn't find it. One of the searchers took his son there on another trip and the son EYEBALLED the ring all the other guys couldn't...

    Holy schmoly!

I was fortunate enough to find a gold and silver buyer in a nearby town and I made some bad decisions on bill paying and the paycheck ran out before the weekend. I took a handful of silver after scratching through a couple of bucketful of finds-even found a few small pieces of gold. I had been...

OK-the other side of the coin...

The trend now is higher iron acceptance, etc. Then you get one and start finding every piece of canslaw in the field. On the other hand, an easily detectable gold ring with respectable size that can easily be found with all machines will pay for a detector. Is it really all that important to try...

Well, this is how I figured it....

After going over the posts of the 1300 vs. 1500 I came to this conclusion. Really, the Garrett picture of the imaging feature helped me. It showed size "A" as foil and size "C" as a class ring. Now, if you're a gold hunter you know what that means. For reality's sake, you only need one size for...

    1350 vs. 1500

OK- I'm getting a little on in years and love my Ace. I've finally decided imaging is for me. Do I understand this correctly? The 1350 DOESN'T have DSP like the 1500? Finally, would smaller than coin-sized targets show up as coin-sized on the profiling of the 1350? Also, I read in the reviews...

    OK-why not a compromise?

So Bosso Mucho Grande won't let the Tracker be modified-why not a concentric coil in an elliptical shape like the Garrett Ace so the signal can have a little compression and have enough "oomph" to be detected:ergo- the 8" sucks on small gold and nickels. That way, the buyer can get the fabulouls...

    Looking for a deeper machine....

I have the Tesoro Silver umax and have heard it's just about as deep as the Cibola-a detector I had considered-and the Tejon, with the Vaq. maybe a little deeper. I just wanna go about 8"-that's a TRUE 8". Is there one out there for around $500? Or would I be happy with just getting the 12 X 10"...

Can't wait to try this on my Tracker....

I had a broken stem on another detector and was out in my garage looking for another stem-THEN I saw it! A White's BlueMax 600 6" coil! It looked like crap and I had to glue the cable connector but it's just what I was looking for on my Tracker IV! Back when I was all Tracker, it was known that...

Just a lil' update on the Tracker IV...

Well, I opened my big mouth and said that a slow sweep speed was the answer-then read another post where a brisk sweep speed got the depth....so. Went out again and it looks like the brisk sweep speed does get a little better depth. Many of the coins were at 3-4"-and I found a silver ring, a...

    Wearisome test..

Took my Tracker IV, Ace 250, Silver umax, and Compadre at a local school plot. Used the Tracker first, Ace second, Silver third, and saved Compadre last since it had least(?) depth. Tracker was in tone mode, Ace in Relics, Silver in min. disc. and Compadre iron nail reject. Tracker was good for...

Well, got to help a newbie this A.M....

Out with my lowly Tracker when this guy just pops up beside me and when I see his machine I was impressed with all the features and said "wow". It was the Discovery 3300 and I tried to hide my Tracker so he wouldn't think I was a newbie.:clapping: He, however, was impressed that I had a thin...

One final post on my Tracker IV...

I know these coins were only 1-3", but SOMEBODY'S been missing them cause they're covered in a heavy patina. My tip-once more. The Tracker is Sweep Speed Sensitive (SSS Blackbird-lol). A leisurely, calm sweep speed makes coins appear as if by magic. The dimes were a quick "peep", but really...

    A question for Dave J.

I finally read my Tracker IV's manual  and noticed like all the others I've had that the manual says to ONLY use alkaline batteries and of course you know what I've been using. I haven't been able to find some of the posts on this question, so I'll ask the guy who knows-am I...
