    One lonely Merc........

Didn't really feel up to hunting today, but at one spot I stopped at last week to ask permission, the owner told me to come back this weekend and I could. Well it rained yesterday, and I didn't want to miss the chance to get my foot in the door. I thought I'd located an old school on this...

Question about todays find (small cent)

I went to check-out a new field today in hopes of making a couple quick finds to try to get my dad back out for some more MDing. Only find was 2 Memorials somehow stuck together. I was only about 5 minutes from the field we'd hunted yesterday, so I thought I'd run over there for a few more...

    1864 2-Cent Piece

(I posted more in the Garretts Board) Coin is in pretty decent condition, have it soaking in water to try to release the last bit of dirt without removing any of the green patina. This is the 1st 2-cent'er I've ever found....so I'm a happy camper  Smitty

A couple firsts for me today....

One was (and the best one) getting my dad to go hunting with me! He's stuck at home 90% of the time taking care of his wife. She has grown kids of her own, but they do little to nothing to help in allowing dad any free time to enjoy himself. I've tried to get him to talk with them about it, even...

350 scores wheaties, silver, token, and relics

Started chasing down a spot to hunt this morning, as well as trying to locate a couple others. "Feelers" are out on the location of an old Fairgrounds, and I got permission to hunt an old school site the owner wasn't even aware was there. I remembered a property I'd trapped a few years ago, and...

    Todays hunt postponed

Because of scumbags......I hate scumbags. There was a happy ending to the story though (not for said scumbag though) http://www.findmall.com/read.php?52,1279051 I sat this morning going back over my maps and Google Earth, and got about a half-dozen "possible" sites. I thought I'd...

Aunt was scammed out of $5K

Yeah, I know....and have said it before myself, people this gullible .....etc. etc. etc........ She got a call from a guy claiming to be her grandson who was in a Haitian jail and needed $5K to get out, and cried PLEASE don't tell his mom & dad (since that would have busted his scam). Well, he...

Clad, cheap ring, and a Susan B Anthony

Hit a small park about 15 miles away today. It was loaded with clad, so much in fact that after digging a few I didn't bother digging pennies, just started cherry-picking quarters & dimes. It was trash free in some areas, so I could actually dig nickle signals which were actually nickles...

    Please keep an eye out......

I was MDing a ball field when dad called me about 1:00PM.....they came home from church to find his front door kicked-in, the house ransacked and a few hundred dollars in cash missing (and they live in a well-occupied neighborhood). Dad & his wife are in their mid-80's and are now upset about...

Anyone ever use a spare detector to invite a property owner to "join-in"?

Just mentioned this in the Garrett Board, but wanted to ask the GP if anyone has ever offered to let a property owner use their back-up detector to hunt (if permission was granted of course).....or to help sweeten the deal in exchange for permission ? What say ye? Smitty

Scored 1897 Barber Dime Today :super:

Hunted a 1868 Church which had an old school house beside it. It happened that I knew the caretaker for the property, so getting permission wasn't a problem. We'd tried to get permission last year, but couldn't connect with anyone to ask. The Barber was found close to one of the still standing...

    Trying ClassRingFinder.com

I found a 1978 woman's Class Ring 3-4 years ago under a swing set at a local small town park. I tried 2 years in a row calling the school asking for help in locating the owner. The gal at the school I spoke with said she even knew the owner, and they attended the school together, but no idea how...

Todays Finds (Silver) With the Ace 250

I hunted a demolished home site, and was told there was also a store there at one time. So I went-in with pretty high hopes. I hadn't been swinging 5 minutes when I found what must have been a small pocket spill that contained a 1943 Quarter, a 1944 Merc, a 1953 Rosie, a 1944 Jefferson nickel...

    Private Messages?

lol, I've never claimed to be the sharpest tool in the shed , but for the life of me I can not find out how to PM on this site. I've read the entry page, tried the search function, been all-over my control panel......and found nothing. I thought possibly the site didn't have PMs, but I'd...

    What's your style?

Do you "usually" hunt solo? With a partner" In a group? Never hunted in a group, I've hunted with a partner and enjoyed it, but have no problem hunting alone. If you hunt with others, and they find something nice, are you envious or happy for them? lol....both If you hunt with others, and...

    A couple of mine

1st one I don't have a clue? It's silver dollar sized, and the markings around the perimeter resemble as "S", no markings on reverse side. 2nd is a Pettibone Mfg. Co. button (marked on reverse, missing shank), and I "think" I may have it narrowed-down to 1880-1920, but if that were easy for...

    PinPointer/Detector Mount

When I got the Ace A few years ago, they had a "special" on the V4 PP. I didn't dislike it other than it's physical size. I know it's a cheapie, and many have had troubles, but it's still working fine (after 3-4 years). Anywho, it was a pain to carry....I'd made a couple different belt mounted...

Relocated 'phone jack on my 250

Not fond of the factory location of the jack on my Ace, I relocated it to the end of the handle. Just made a short extension, routed it through the handle, and installed the new female jack into the end cap. Now the cord isn't constantly in the way. I'd have to think this would have no effect...

    Hey All!

Kind of a new member here, I was a member 2-3 years ago, but wasn't able to do much MDing for the past year or so, so the interest just kinda took a nap. I also lost my hunting buddy (moved, not deceased) which made it a little nicer to have someone to hunt with, share resources/research, etc...
