    Another interesting phenomena

Another interesting phenomena I experienced to day involved misidentification of targets. Here in Washington State, we have an annual Rain Festival, commencing on January 1 and going through December 31 each year. We don't get sun tans, we rust. Anyway, While out MD in the rain with the Elite...

    How to get a "tune-up."

The Pioneer 505 I got yesterday has several small issues. 1) When I wave a 1964 silver dime past the coil, it registers as a quarter. When I wave a 1964 silver quarter, it registers as a half dollar and, you guessed it, when I wave a 1964 silver half dollar, it shows up as a dollar. This is...

    Interesting phenomena

Today I had a meeting in Portland Oregon, about 150 miles from my home. I left early and stopped by my hometown to get in about 30 min of MD. I knew where we used to use our sleds in the snow and thought I would give that hill a try. I found two silver rings, each marked "sterling sliver...

    More tips

I have purchased products from this company in the past and have no financial interest in it at all. http://stores.ebay.com/imagetrader They sell USGS topo maps as well as satellite imagery of entire counties on CDs. What makes these products so useful is that all the topo maps are...

    Research tip

I found that some major state universities have scans of old historic maps available for free on-line. I have learned that there were towns (mainly groupings of houses) in my local area that are no longer on modern maps. The old maps show buildings and landmarks. I can open google earth and then...

    Decent compromise

I decided to put on a pair of disposable vinyl gloves yesterday prior to MDing. It worked well. My hands were much cleaner afterwards and I lost virtually no tactile sensitivity. My hands did not sweat too much either. Come warmer weather, the sweating issue may change. Mark Elite 2200 WA St.

    Meteorite Men

I watched Meteorite Men last night on the Discovery Channel. It is a new show that is supposed to be on the Science Channel. http://www.meteoritemen.com/ In this episode, they found two meteorites in one day, each valued at about $100,000.00. That is way better than $2.10 in corroded clad...

    Made a new freind today

I was out MDing the lake bottom where I have been going the past few weeks and saw another fellow out doing likewise. We started talking and comparing machines. He had a White's MXT with a small elliptical coil. His coil gave him a sweep width of about 6" compared to mine of about 9". For every...

    Extending the life......

I bought some Plasti Dip liquid and dipped my Harbor Freight pin-pointer tip into it giving it several coats. This added a protective shield to the end that gets scraped though the spoils of an excavated hole and gets plowed into the sides of excavated holes. The layer is perhaps only 0.020"...

    $216,000,000.00 in change per year

This video shows crows trained to find coins. The claim is that $216 Million in change is lost each year. Maybe we should abandon our silicon based detectors and switch to the organic, carbon-based variety. http://www.wimp.com/intelligencecrows/ Mark Elite 2200 WA St.

    Gloves

After MDing in wet weather, my hands become very dirty and the foam grip on my Elite 2200 gets dirty. I usually wash the handle to clean it. Do any of you ware gloves to protect your hands from broken glass, old hypodermic needles etc? How about gloves to keep hands clean? Markl Elite 2200 WA St.

    Clubs

No, not the kind that we should all use on the heads of the food packaging designers who insist on using conductive foils on gum, drinks and snacks etc. I'm talking about metal detector clubs. I friend of mine has invited me to attend a club meeting Sunday and I am tempted to attend primarily to...

    How deep???

I have found hundreds of memorial pennies and clad coins but no wheaties or silver. I have noticed that the coins I have found were perhaps 3"-4" deep and I have scratched my head as to how coins got 4" under the surface. I asked an older detecting friend and he told me that vegetation growing...

    Knock knock

Who's there? Dwayne Dwayne who? Dwayne the lake some more please so I can continue MDing. I went to a local lake that gets drained each winter. I found a large number of artifacts including three cell phones. Go figure!!! I also found many clad coins. My optical paper money finder located a...

    Brrrrrr!!!

I took my trusty old Elite 2200 out today in about 32 degree F weather and got the impression that the cold temperature adversely effected its operation. It seemed to produce signals that were difficult to get again.. inconsistent, if you will. Have any of you experienced this phenomena? Mark...

Is this information true for the Tracker IV?

http://www.detecting.com/products/product.cmdl?c=8166fcf29a1111d4 The above URL is from the BH site and makes claims about the Tracker IV machine. When I read the Tracker IV manual, the information contained therein is completely different from the above mentioned claims. What's going on...

    S E X

Now that I have your attention, I have a question. Are any of the posters here of the female persuasion? I have seen perhaps 15 people in my life MDing and 100% of them were men. Is this hobby pretty much a guy thang or have I happened to only see men doing it? Mark Elite 2200 WA St.
