    More days to MD

I keep reading about all you poor folks who live in the northern climes having to endure bone chilling winds and frozen tundra. I am asking all readers of this forum to eat at least one bowl of chili per day, to burn logs in their fireplace and drive a huge fuel guzzling vehicle in order to pump...

    VLF

What is the advantage of Very Low Frequency machines? I see that Big Five Sporting Goods has a Famous Trails VLF machine for sale for $99 and it got me thinking about what a VLF machine might do. I know that the US military has buried large antennas in the ground so that submarines on the other...

    Eastern AZ or western NM?

I'll be taking a trip at the end of the year to Eastern AZ and have been reading about many of the ghost towns and lost treasures/mines in the area. Are any of you from that area or have any of you gone MDing in that area? If so, I woudl love to hear about your experience. Mark Elite 2200

    Sinking coins

While in the Gifford Pincho National Forest a few weeks ago I went MDing in campgrounds. The searched areas were under large Douglas Fir trees that shed needles. It was my observation based upon the dates of the clad coins and pennies I found that the needles bury the coins about 1/10" per year...

    Future of MD?

Well, it is pretty much a sure thing that the USA is going into a period of hyperinflation where gasoline may cost $50-$100 per gal, a loaf of bread $40-$80 etc. If that happens, the clad coins we have been questing will be worth no more than the old rusty steel washers we discriminate-out now...

    Research

have any of you ever done extensive research to locate an old abandoned road or town site etc? I am researching the lost mines I mentioned earlier and realize that there is much work and driving and looking through old documents etc. Mark Elite 2200

Coins from the Great White North

I tested some Canadian coins on my Elite 2200 to see how they would register. Here are the results: Pennies 1941-zinc 1962-penny 1971-penny 1973-quarter 1974-penny 1976-quarter 1978-quarter...

    I cannot tell a lie

It has been my experience that if my Elite 2200 says it is a quarter after swinging the coil all directions, that it is always a quarter. I cannot say that for when pennies, dimes or nickels are indicated. Good old George is always truthful. I love those quarter "pings." Mark Elite 2200

    Help from Pittsburgh please

About 17 years ago my son and I were sitting on a park bench in Puyallup, Washington and I looked down on the ground and sitting on the grass was a medallion. I have attached photos of it. It says "PITTSBURGH YMCA OLYMPIC MEET 1911." I cannot find any reference on the internet to the YMCA meet...

    Interference

The BH owner's manual says that overhead power lines, radio transmitters and other sources of electromagnetic energy can interfere with the operation of a BH MD. Have any of you ever expereinced this phenomina? Mark Elite 2200

    Lost mines etc

I have been researching lost treasure in the Pacific NW and learned of legends of two lost mines in an area where I have frequented. The rock formations in this region, as far as I remember, are basalt rock. It was my understanding that gold ore is usually quartz. I have seen veins of quartz in...

    Donner and Blitzen

I was out MDing today in the field where I had found so many quarters last month. Today it was dimes! Anyway it was cloudy and a lightning storm started. I didn't want to stop until I was finished scanning a particular grid portion of the soccer field. Was I wrong? How likely was I got get a...

    Rain gear

Here in Washington State we have an annual Rain Festival (Jan1 through Dec 31) each year. During this time, I would still like to go detecting, however I don't want to put the brain and display portion of my Elite 2200 at risk from water damage. Do any of you have suggestions for a condom, or...

    Why oh why oh why????

Why are we wasting our time with these electronic metal detectors when we could be going after not only gold and silver but paper money treasure as well? http://simmonsscientificproducts.com/products.html I want to gt one and use it to find the paper money D.B Cooper stole and lost somewhere...

    Epoxy

Epoxy is a very hard adhesive. It seems to me that if a person were to buy an epoxy kit, clean the bottom of their search coil and then mix-up the epoxy and apply it to the bottom of the coil, that the life of the coil would be extended and the coil protected from being abraded through. Have...

    moral and ethical obligation

If a person MDing found a valuable piece of jewelry, what obligation does he/she have to make an effort to find its owner? If it has a value of $100 or less, I don't think anyone could be criticized for simply keeping it. If it is someone's engagement or wedding ring, it seems to me that some...

    I think I have been missing-out

My Elite 2200 seems to find many targets that it says are 7"-9" deep. In the past I have ignored them because they usually proved to be aluminum cans. Yesterday I decided to dig some targets that were registering 6" deep. They were really only about 3"-4" deep. I had one shredded piece of a...
