    BH detector technology

I have my Elite 2200 and now I have a BH Jr. The Jr. seems to use a different technology than the Elite 2200. I can pick up very faint tones with the Jr., but the frequency of the tone is the same if the target is aluminum , iron, copper or silver. Will one of you knowledgeable folks please...

    Swinging direction

Sometimes I get a super sharp "ping" going back and forth, but when I sweep at 90 degrees I get a "ping honk." I have yet to dig such a target for they are mostly deep and I believe likely to be junk. What's the word on such signals? BTW, if I dug every signal, I would have no time for anything...

Bounty Hunter Jr. and Harbor Freight PP

I am thinking of modifying my Jr. so that I can plug in headphones and control the volume. Have any of you mad a similar mod to a Jr.? Also, my Harbor Freight pinpointer needs an on-off switch so that it doesn't accidentally start beeping. Have any of you made that mod? Thanks, Mark

    Ethical question

If I find a diamond ring or some similar valuable item, what are the rules about trying to find the owner? The silver ring I found last week was buried under about 3" of soil, so I assume it has been several years since it was lost. If I found a piece of jewelry on the surface, I would file a...

    Was I hosed??

About 6 weeks or so ago I bought my BH Elite 2200. There was a "special" offer of a "free" BH Jr. with the purchase. I got the coupon, read the fine print and saw that the "free" BH Jr. would cost me $14. I sent off my check over a month ago, BH cashed it, but still I have not received the...

    Ping ping honk ping.

Will a quarter always give a ping regardless of direction of swing and angular location of the swinger? When I get a ping ping honk ping, is not going to be a quarter? Today I got a super consistent ping ping ping ping with an occasional honk. BH said a quarter at 6 inches. It was sure to be a...

Smaller coil for a BH and other stuff.

My BH Elite 2200 is like the Discovery 2200, I have been told. I want to know if a smaller coil or a larger coil can be used with the Elite 2200. I understand that BH sells a 4" coil and I want to know is this a direct plug-in substitution for the original coil? Also, when detecting around...

    Canadian too???????????????/

Today while cleaning my found coins, I noticed a 200? Canadian penny. It seems to also be made of zinc. Has the Canadian government also debased its monetary system to the point it cannot afford to put copper in its pennies? Mark Elite 2200

No such thing as a dollar

Statistically speaking, if a BH says there is a dollar deep, 99.9% of the time it will be junk. I'm learning. Mark Elite 2200

    Batteries

I have been researching 9V batteries. There are alkaline, rechargeable and lithium. The alkaline have about 1/2 the capacity of the lithium and cost about 1/3 as much, so they are a better way to go on a strictly cost per sweeping hour basis. The rechargeables are only 8.4 volts and about the...

    Pied Piper etc.

I was at a local part today and the kids came around asking what I was doing. I explained the machine and gave each a turn to dig what was indicated. Two kids got clad quarters and the third got several pennies and a dime. I noticed that each target was less deep than was indicated. Is that...

    Aluminum objects

I just returned from a local park about 1 mile from my house. I don't think the part is very old... perhaps built in the 1970s. There are thousands of signals there, mostly deep ones, like around 5-7 inches. I did not dig them, only the ones about 3" of less. Those I dug, were 75% of the time...

    Quick Draw II

I read that teh Quick Draw II has "Three level iron discrimination for relic hunting." What is that and how does it work? Thanks, Mark

    H U G E vein of dirt.

Today I stopped by my older sister's house in Seattle to do a little detecting. I wanted to show-off the Elite 2200 and since the neighborhood in which she lives was built about 100 years ago, I figured that the parking strip and lawns might be promising sites to search. Long story short... I...

    B I N G O ! ! !

Well, I went to the local park about 1 mile from my house today to go detecting. Nails, pull-tabs, misc scrap. I kept getting mixed signals. Sweeping one way I got a high ping but sweeping another I got a low ping. My Elite 2200 said I found a $0.50 piece that turned out to be a copper or brass...

    Discrimination and large targets

Well, I just learned that the discrimination only works on small targets. I was at an old town site that is now overgrown with trees and brush and had my discrimination set to exclude iron. I kept getting a signal saying $0.25 and when I dug it,it was a part of a cast iron stove about 4" x 5" x...

    Does rusted steel = silver?

Today I got two fairly strong signals indicating a $0.50 or a $1 and two "wishy washy" signals that bounced between a quarter and $0.50 piece. All four proved to be iron, three nails and a 6" long piece of iron wire. Yes, I had the iron discriminated out but still I got the erroneous signals. I...

    Did I waste my money???

I have recently located a seasoned fellow metal detector enthusiast close to where I live. Each time I suggest detecting in a specific local, he tells me that it has already been searched. 1) Are spots that have already been searched worth re-searching with more modern machines? 2) Have...

    Phantom targets

There have been several instances where I get a good strong signal swinging both ways from different angles/positions but when I dig to the indicated depth, either there is nothing there and the signal vanishes or there is nothing there but the signal remains. What is causing this phenomena? Any...

    First major coin

I was using my BH Elite in my gravel driveway today and got an indication of a $1 coin at 7 inches. After about 30 minutes of exploring the rocky soil, and using my Harbor Freight pin pointer, I hit pay dirt. The only marking on it is the letters "AC" Can any of you help me identify the country...
