Not saying this is always true with the Tek's but...

I just have to laugh when reading on other brand forums that running the sensitivity too high in trashy areas is like running 'high beams in the fog'. Well I say go ahead and crank up your Tek cuz they turn on the fog lights. Tom

Here's a link to download the manual for the soon to be released New Gold Bug. Gold Bug manual The link was down for a few days this week but is back up and working again. Tom

Cabin fever setting in so I headed over to Lake Michigan with the Omega for a beach hunt

As I expected the winds had blown the snow away from small areas of the beach exposing the sand and due to the warmup (high 30's) of the last couple days combined with the relatively warm lake waters the sand was diggable. For those not familiar with the Great Lakes, the water levels...

    A winter statistic

98% OF PEOPLE SAY 'OH SHIT' BEFORE GOING IN THE DITCH ON A SLIPPERY ROAD. THE OTHER 2% ARE FROM MICHIGAN AND THEY SAY, 'HOLD MY BEER AND WATCH THIS.' Wishing you a Merry Christmas from the Great Lakes State!! Tom

Given that a lot of older coins in the US seem to come from the 6 - 8" range

and you are specifically looking for the older stuff. What detector and coil choice do you start off with when hunting a new to you site that has a strong probability of having been hit hard by other detectorists? Without starting any debates about which detector is best for old coin hunting...

    Field hunt with the Omega

Another great November day up here in Michigan with temps in the mid 50's and little wind it felt almost balmy. I wanted to check out a site that I had hunted last with the T2 to see how the Omega would handle the iron. This year it is planted in soybeans where in the past it had been in corn...

    Tek Omega field report....

My main interest in trying out the Omega was to see just how good this detector equipped with the DD coil is at handling iron at the older sites I hunt. When the T2 was released I was impressed at it's ability to hunt iron and pick out co-located non-ferrous targets but I was a little put off...

    Link to Buckeyebrad's Omega review...

This was buried in a thread so I thought it would be nice to bring it to the top for those that missed it Omega Review

    "Valley Rats" and metal detecting

When I first got into metal detecting one of the sites I liked to visit and detect was the area of a late 1800's logging camp. The name of the logging camp was Hitchcock as it had its own post office during the peak of the white pine lumbering era. Today the name Hitchcock is generally used by...

    TX Boost

one for coin hunters and one for the relic guys that would take best advantage of the TX boost field strength? Is that possible with IB coils? 00 Tom

Why we need an explanation from the engineers of how

the ground balance setting applies to in ground performance on the terras. Here's a few tidbits I and others found with the 70 Setting to a couple numbers postive (higher number) can give better results in tough conditions. Some say lower numbers work better  true neutral ground will...

    Hey Andy...

Come April 6th I'm gonna have a lot of questions for you! Tom

Ok guys and gals here we go some testing.

Heck I haven't even read a manual! it's just that well.. we aren't all highly trained military pilots that can handle the information overload of modern avionics. Heck they are even studying how to simply the info for those guys. A nice clean screen with minimal info would satisfy me...

Ok guys and gals here we go some testing.

Most people when they are hunting ain't gonna take the time to switch to the analyze screen on every dang high conductive target they come across. So it would be nice when the detector is "pretty sure" that a conductive icon ain't quite right due to the freq response that it would let you know...

Ok guys and gals here we go some testing.

unless its a fault of the picture taken. What would be nice is if the target icon in the regualr screen would light up the same color as the peak freq of the analyze screen. That would be one more way of getting info without having to toggle. I never did like confidence numbers and graphs...

Ok guys and gals here we go some testing.

same color as the best freq on the analyze screen, that way you would have a quick and easy clue on some of those foolers. ie: the freq color did not match the known conductivity of a target.

My First Ring with the Vision

darn those things anyway! so do they read different than a nickel in analyze? Tom

Ok guys and gals here we go some testing.

Did the VDI also flash a higher number during the test??
  19. J

What I would like to know is what do targets on edge look like on the freq. screen and on the analyse screen that has to with the sizing of the target

One of my test targets is an on edge Merc at 6" +/- near some iron. Most any machine will hit it swinging East/west but it reads as a quarter most of the time regardless of the machine used. The threshold based relic machines will get it in a full circle even at minimum sens. The Advantage...
