Alot of the silver dimes I hit sound like deep wheat pennies, so you have dig them as nearby iron or being really worn can drop the silver signal down to wheat penny range.     Cool. The merc is probably an older one. Pretty nice condition buffalo for the beach. Make sure and check the back for a mint mark if you haven't already as a 1921 S is a key date. I pulled one a few years ago. Dave

    I was wondering the same thing. Seems like if the nut worked its way loose, it would still be looped around the reigns. I have found a handful of them over the years, and they are cool to find.
