Thanks Rob. I thought that might be the case. I appreciate your input and patience. I'm still learning the VX3 and liking it more with each hunt.

    Fake detectors

Thanks Rob. Everything Whites is new to me. I did read of the fake machines on the internet, that is why I called Whites. I wanted to know if there was a way to identify a fake before I bought it. I am not concerned so much now that I have it. It is as advertised.

    Fake detectors

I bought my VX3 used off Craigslist. I was able to look at it and try it out before buying. It had only been used a couple of hours. Before buying it I called White's in Sweet Home and asked about the existence of fake VX3's and was told by the lady that answered the phone that neither she...

I made sure that I was away from my target. Could the other nearby targets that may have been discriminated out have caused the silence?

I finally got to spend some time with my new VX3 Saturday at on old homesite that is very trashy, low mineralization, sandy soil. I was hunting primarily in factory c&j mode but occasionaly went to coin mode. RX at 10 most of the time, am sensitivity at 55, disc sensitivity at 75, Occasionaly...

    New to the VX3

Thanks. Right now I am going to follow the advice of learning to use the coil I have, then when I get another one it wil probably be one of the smaller dd's as I work a lot of trashy and mineralized areas too. I have never been so excited to find a zinc penny as I was this afternoon. I spent...

    New to the VX3

Great info guys. Thanks. The manual was what sold me on a Whites. I had narrowed my choice down to either an etrac or vx3. After reading both manuals online I felt like the vx3 would be a better choice. Although the blogs said the etrac was easier to learn, the Whites manual was much easier...

    New to the VX3

I really do appreciate all the advice and encouragement. I was so excited to get the machine that I just grabbed it and went to some of my favorite sites. I need to take the time to do some testing in the garden and document my results. Which DD do you suggest? Keep the comments coming.

    New to the VX3

I haven't tried to change any discrimination patterns yet but it seems simple enough in the manual. I reallly appreciate your help. I am reading all the threads I can but I am sure thee will be more questions to come.

I don't know the size. The girl was 15 when she lost it so it is probably not very big. When you say turn the discrimination up to reject everything below 50, do you mean that I should modify the discrimination pattern of the mode I select (coin or coin and jewelry)?

Thanks for the input. I will put your suggestions into practice. I would like some advice on an upcoming hunt; I have been asked to find a silver ring that was lost at an old homeplace more than 80 years ago. The house has been gone since the early 60's. I first hunted this sight 30 years...

    New to the VX3

Hi guys, I am new to the forum and just got my first White's machine a few days ago. It is aVX3. I have used a Garrett GTI 2500 for about 10 years now and thought I knew how to metal detect, but the VX3 is a whole different animal. I have taken it out 3 times now for a total of about 6 hours...
