Turning an alkaline pack into a 2500 mAH NiMH pack

Intro: The following are instructions to modify a White's alkaline battery pack into a 2500 mAH Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) battery pack that can be charged in the V3's charger. Go slow, be careful, and bear in mind I hold no responsibility if you make a mistake... I haven't yet...

    Battery pack modifications?

I've successfully reverse engineered the pack and charger. I'm now building a high capacity (2500 mAH) battery pack for the V3 based on the alkaline pack. This pack will provide more run-time than OEM NiMH pack (1600 mAH???). I had to order parts to modify the alkaline pack into a NiMH pack...

    Battery pack modifications?

Larry is right about the charger compatibility, however the V3 uses Nickel Metal Hydride batteries (NiMH) not lithium ion. Lithium ion chargers and battery packs use smart charging technology to prevent damage to the pack/charger or the operator and they incude a monitor IC in the pack. The V3...

    Super 12 " Coil

Better have a backhoe at the ready when you use the Super 12 in 2.5 kHz with the V3! The iron planet core needs to be discriminated out with that baby!

Eclipse 5.3 for my V3.....optimized or not?

PS Also, check out White's website: they mention the "V3 specific" coils in the FAQ section...

Eclipse 5.3 for my V3.....optimized or not?

The optimized (AKA V-nulled) 5.3 (and other coils as well) allows the V3 to be run with higher sensitivity and/or TX Boost without fear of overload. Higher sensitivity obviously means more depth. The optimized coils are denoted by a "V" preceding the serial number on the mounting ears. I...

    Got my V-optimized 5.3 today

All, I got my V3 optimized Eclipse 5.3 today. That little sucker is incredible! In my test garden it goes as deep as the 10DD, pinpoints spot on, and works much better in the trash! We have very low ground mineralization around here so concentrics seem to shine. John

Anyone remotely near northern NJ with a V3?

Hi Erik, I'm on Long Island about an hour and a half from NJ. Here's the coincidental thing: I was going to post on the E-Trac forum to see if there was anyone in my area that wanted to compare the E-Trac with the V3! I'm fascinated by the E-Trac and Explorer. I understand they're deep...

    V-Nulled 5.3 - Anyone have stock?

That's correct. The process is called "nulling" or "inductive balancing." The RX coil and TX coils are carefully positioned and adjusted such that the RX coil recieves the minimum signal directly from the TX coil. I refer you to this treatise from Carl for more info.

My best find to date with V3

Is 50 considered high mineralization? I usually see a ground probe VDI of between -5 and +10. Nice find by the way!

    vision/spectra v3 driving me crazy

What does the threshold sound like when you're balancing? If it's pulsating independant of motion, this is a sure sign of EMI. Try frequency offset or running in single frequency mode. Of course, run reduced sensitivity and/or lower discrimination numbers to clean it up.

    V-Nulled 5.3 - Anyone have stock?

Kellyco doesn't have stock. I called them. Steve (the guy I spoke with) says they will have them "in a few weeks." Congrats on getting a V3!

    V-Nulled 5.3 - Anyone have stock?

All the coils that work with the DFX work with the V3, however White's has started making V-nulled coils which are more compatible. The V-nulled coils are nulled to a higher standard for use with the V3. They have a V preceding the serial number stamped on the rod mount ears.

    The V3 Does it again!

No I used the 10DD. The quarter was at about 7", the dime and penny at 4-5". Too trashy for the 12...

    The V3 Does it again!

I have to post all my good finds. I can't let everyone think the E-Trac guys are finding it all! :clapping:

    V-Nulled 5.3 - Anyone have stock?

I've made inquiries at a few dealers, online as well as my local dealer, for a V-nulled Eclipse 5.3. I tried a non-V 5.3 at my dealer but it couldn't be run above a sensitivity of about 3 and overloaded on TX Boost. I suspect my local dealer fulfills orders for White's web site so ordering...

    The V3 Does it again!

In a very heavily trashy area that I visited for the fits time - a lot of square nails and iron, the V3 found these tonight: 1952 quarter, 1962-D dime, 1918 wheatie. I need to get a smaller coil and go back. There's more where this came from, I just need to be able to "see" it among the...
