    A surprise in the mail.......

F.O.D. was going to make up a pair of deluxe "Funkyfones" for me, but lacked the time. Instead, he sent me a pair of RAT phones. Will enjoy trying them out this spring. Thank you F.O.D. :bouncy: Art

In response to Minelab's e-mail to me concerning the special transmit circuitry in the coil....

In case you wondered, Minelab is listening...... They verified that there is a recieve preamp in the coil....powered as I said from the TX side. The recieved signal gets a power boost to improve signal to noise ratio and is transmitted to the box. Perhaps Minelab and myself took each other...

Question about the X-T 50 and noise........

Want to know if anyone has compared the X-T to the Sov in areas where the electrical noise is so brutal as to render the Sov nearly useless. Side by side comparison only......I know that noise changes from day to day. HH

    information of questionable value.........

Lost the gold inlay from a tooth last night. Had to check it out with the GT. Guess you could consider it a good flake (18.5 grains). Air tested about 4" in disc mode flatways. Meter varied between 240's and 260's (divide by 3 for 180 value). Air test in all metal was only a couple inches, but...

    Rick...........GT gremlins revisited..........

Remember my recent fiasco with the ID not backing down? Problem came back. Tried something different this morning........ Was useing a newer zinc and a couple older crusty zincs, along with a dime. Problems happened with the newer zinc, but not the older ones. It appears that the problem was...

Rick.....you will think this is hilarious.........

Don't know if I was using a bad penny or not. Don't really think so, but..... Decided to run on the alkaline pack full of rechargeables for a different voltage. Seemed to work better. Yanked that out and slammed the blue pack back in, and guess what?? Works fine now. No more than two passes to...

Question for Rick on the GT.........

Don't know if this is normal, but is a bit of an irritation......... My GT responds with the correct tone and meter reading as long as the target has a HIGHER conductivity than the previous target. That's OK. The meter and tone response is WRONG if the next target is LOWER than the previous...

Sometimes you really do want to find the nails........

Detected a couple trees out back before cutting them down. Found some hardware in the wood, and marked the spots that were safe to cut. Did not do so with this tree. Tore up the chainsaw pretty good. Moral to the story..... You don't always make money detecting, but you sure can lose some...

Elite meter seems S-L-O-W to respond

Seems to me that my Elite meter responds much slower than my old XS2 meter. Anybody else see this??? The response acts like there is a capacitor that needs time to get charged up before it comes up to the correct reading. This makes it look smoother and more stable than the old meter, but...

GT all metal mode.......this is interesting........

Decided to an extreme test just to see what would happen. Took a good sized piece of aluminum flashing and dropped a Suzy B. right in the middle of it. Set sens to min, set the GT to track, and lowered the coil to just a few inches over the aluminum sheet. Balanced itself in only 3-4 seconds...

    Update on meter/detector/S-12 problems..........

Talked to Ralph a while and decided to try a few more things. I was having problems with the S-12 reading very low and sounding bad. Since adjusting the Elite meter up internally, the S-12 will calibrate now. It does read 66 low of what the other coils do with the Elite meter but reads the...

    Hey F.O.D..............

ID voltage on the GT is measuring 1.732 volts at the connector for all coils. Beats me why the S-12 still gives a lower than normal ID on the meter. It just don't figure. It sounds like crap, which is why I replaced it with a 12.5" detech for a larger coil last year. HH Art

Note to Gary on subject of pinpointing.......

Attempted to send a private message back. Don't know if it worked or not. Never tried it before. If you did not recieve it, then tell me, and I will try again. HH

    New meter, new gremlins :rage:

Just got a new Elite meter for the GT. Been using the meter from my 2a. Surprise, surprise  . Meter won't adjust high enough. Swapped the new meter cable over to the 2a box, and it worked ok. OK....no big deal...just put the new meter on the 2a and leave the older meter on the GT. Seemed...

Sort of detecting related...oldest find so far this year....

Doing a little field hunting and eyeballed this oldie. Had fun listening to the iron and hot rocks. The farmer stopped and handed me a cold beer. Not a bad morning. HH
