Whites Spectra V3 on the beach

I agreed - 3-frequency salt mode for the wet stuff and turn off on the salt in the dry .................. for me the V3 is the best machine I've ever used on wet sand - stability is outstanding with good depth using either the stock or (even better, the 6X10).

    TX Boost or No Boost?

For me (in the UK) I seem to have a choice when using either the sock or 6X10 coil: Rx at 12 to 15 with Tx OFF or Rx of 3 to 4 with Tx ON - (inland). On a dry beach I can sometimes get Rx of 12 to 15 and Tx ON (same coils).

    problems near overhead cables

You will get different answers answers from people on the forums, but for me, frequency offset works very well.

Rx recommendations for SEF coils on the V3

You're beginning to confirm a lot of what I have been thinking. 22.5KHz seems to be the main issue for a non-V-rated SEF as it seems that at this frequency the lack of a deep null has a significant effect on recommended Rx. I have seen other posts that suggest that the 10% noise "allowance" is...

Rx recommendations for SEF coils on the V3

Hi All This is a question really aimed at existing V3 SEF coil users - especially the 10X12. What sort of Rx recommendation do you get with the Probe feature? I have one coming (not V-rated) but have read elsewhere that the recommended Rx tends to be very low (in low single figures). Of course...

    Wet ground/dry ground... too wet/too dry ???

I know detectors are supposed to work better when the ground is wet, but I found more in the dry last year ..........................

    wireless headphones

I agree with all of the above. I was thinking initially of not bothering (and I doubt I'd be able to justify replacing them if they broke) but I love them.

Anyone know when detailed V-3 book might come out?

I corresponded with Jeff Foster about a book a few months back. He said that he is working on one and suggested early 2010 as a possible publication date ..........

    Lots of v3 Questions

It all sounds like you're running way too "hot" - the V3's stock programs are a bit hot straight out of the box! Reduce Disc Sens and Rx until you get stable audio and no falsing. Don't be afraid to cut it way back if you need to - the V3 is way more sensitive than pretty-much anything else out...

    Well Jeff Foster

I exchanged emails with Jeff about this a couple of months ago and IIRC the book is slated for Q1 of 2010, but this might slip.

UK hunting, coil, and program setup

If you send me your email address I'll send you over a spreadsheet of UK-specific programs that a lot of people over here have been using to pretty good effect. As for techniques, low and slow is, seemingly, the way to go. Mineralisation tends to be an issue for us as is iron pollution on good...

    Autotrac too aggressive?

OK - here's the "official" answer. I've just got off the phone from Whites in the UK who have had a reply from the Factory. The answer is that there is a big difference between the reporting of tracking on the V3 compared to the DFX and, we don't really need to worry. Seeing the tracking message...

    Autotrac too aggressive?

Thanks for that - hadn't considered whether the degree of tracking was an issue as opposed to tracking per se ......... now, what about an "official" take on the subject from the Techies at Whites ...

    Autotrac too aggressive?

That should be "too much tracking is as bad as too little" ....... sorry.

    Autotrac too aggressive?

I have noticed that whenever I use one of the suggested settings for Trac Speed my V3 always seems to be tracking. Turning it down to 2 or 3 limits it somewhat but it still seems to track far more than the DFX ever did. We know that too much tracking is bad - the manual says that "too much...

Dominant 22.5 coins in 3 freq. Best Data?

I agree - 22.5KHz is very sensitive to the thin stuff, but I have had (shallow) very small hammereds using a modified Hi-Pro setup.

Threshold and Rx and Disc settings ?

I use the Probe feature and whatever it suggests I back-off one or two and pop the Sensitivity up a bit. I usually get an Rx recommendation of 12 to 15 and can usually run Sensitivity at 75 to 88. (I'm in the UK.) This is the general thrust of Jimmy Sierra's recommendation - he reckons...

    RE: Program for the UK

I'd agree - I have developed three programmes based on Relic (all similar but using 3-freqs or 22.5 KHz - for hammered) and have found a cut-half hammered and a 13thC brooch in VERY dry conditions. I am currently working on developing one based on Hi-Pro .... but I'm trying not too change too...

Sooo....when is a self help book coming out on how to use the Vision/V3???

I contacted Jeff Foster a few weeks back and he said it would be "early next year".
