    Say it ain't snow !!!!

I hate to use the dreaded 4 letter word but yes, it is 33 degrees and snowing in Upstate New York. Way too early for this crap! Hopefully will be gone tomorrow and the weekend will be ok for some Fall detecting.

Sniffed out a couple of silvers from the trash this morning

Hit the same park we've been pounding for the last month or so. Finds are getting hard to come by lately. Met up with Park Pirate in a different area of the park and first find was a 1963 Roosie hiding under a pulltab at about 6" deep. Then dug a nice gold gilt flat button. After digging about...

Park Pirate left me a few crumbs....

Park Pirate was on a silver streak this morning but he left a couple coppers and a nickel for me so I didn't go home empty handed. Dug the gorgeous 1888 indian head cent and the 1890 V-nickel on a little hill that we have pounded to death. Was happy to dig a small 10K ring before ending the day...

Today's lone find breaks long seated slump !

I haven't dug a seated liberty coin in about 4 years so I must admit, it was beginning to bother me. Won't have to worry any longer after digging a 1858-O seated liberty half dime this morning while out detecting with Park Pirate. I was digging some deep iffy signals and this was the only one...

Only dug one oldie this evening but it was a nice one !!

Good signals were tough to come by this evening but I had one deep iffy hit turn out to be a nice 1864 Two cent piece. This one cleaned up nicely. A lot better than the holed one I dug a couple weeks ago and definitely nicer than the one park pirate dug a few hundred yards away last weekend ...

A few recent finds including semi-key Indian head cent

Picked a few more from the trash this week. Nothing really great but was happy to see the 1872 date on one of the indian head cents. Wish the wear was a little better on the 2. Still worth a few bucks though. Be back at it tomorrow morning for hopefully some with a little more shine to them.

    Civil War Token

Got out last evening for a couple hours and only managed a single wheat cent and this nice 1863 Civil War token. Over the years I've dug maybe a dozen but all the others were the store card variety. This is the first with a patriotic device.

A few finds from today's hunt with B.RATNY & Park Pirate

I was lucky to witness Park Pirate pull that nice Barber half from the ground today. Couldn't match him but I was more than happy to come home with a 1906 Barber dime, 1927 mecury and four indian head cents dated 1902 (2), 1889 & 1893. Haven't hit this park much the last couple of years but...

Dirty washer turns out to be holed two cent piece !

Got out this morning for one of the few days of detecting this month because of the heat. Dug what I thought was a large flat washer but was surprised to see some coin details on it. Wiped off some dirt and realized it was probably a two center that was shot with a small caliber bullet. A quick...

Got a few good ones this morning.

Haven't posted in a few weeks due to lack of finds. Hit my favorite old city park today, the one that is very kind to Indian head cents. First decent find was a worn Indian head cent. That usually translates to an early one. Wasn't disappointed after a peroxide soaking when I could see it was an...

    Counter-stamped 1864 Indian head cent

Hit the old park this morning for a couple hours. With all the recent rain, the place was a swamp and the grass has grown to about 6 inches high. Could only manage a couple of Indian head cents and 3 wheaties. One of the Indian heads (a 1864) was counter-stamped 537 on the obverse and with what...

Got a few today including a gorgeous Indian head cent

Got out this afternoon after the rain finally stopped. Hit my favorite park for Indian head cents as the sandy soil in very kind to them. Only problem is they are very deep. After about an hour with nothing but some clad and one wheat cent, I finally got a nice, deep good sounding hit. Dug down...

Closing in on coin #1000 from One Park

I've been listing all detecting finds on an Excel spread sheet for many years now. Starting with my first find on 10/31/87(1900-O Barber dime) up to last weekend's 1943-P war nickel. I was wondering how many coins I have dug over the years at one particular park. Easy to do by sorting the list...

    Weekend Finds....Strange Barber Quarter

Not much luck this weekend. Was hoping for some nice silver or a few more Indian head cents. Yesterday all I could manage was a no date and 1920 Buffalo nickel. Today I dug the 1943-P war nickel and late in the hunt I get a high pitched tone that sounded good but hit a couple notches lower on...

    Slim pickins today

Tough day at the old park today. 3 hours of detecting and only came home with a crusty 1890 something V-nickel, 1927 Buffalo nickel, one wheat cent and the 10th toy motorcycle I've dug in this park. I have no idea on how old and why these keep turning up. I've also dug dozens of animals (horse...

Snow Storm fizzled.....First silver of the year !!!

Our predicted 6-10 inches of snow turned out to be a light dusting that was gone by this morning. The poor guys in New Hampshire and Maine got the brunt of it. Hit 2 different parks today. The first gave up a 1926 Mercury dime, 1900 Indian head cent and the buffalo nickel. The merc had to be one...

3 more Indians joined the tribe.

Got a late start this morning because I waited until the temperature hit 30 degrees before I ventured out. Hit the same area of the old park where I dug the 5 Indian head cents last weekend. Could only manage about 1 hour of detecting before the brutally cold winds sent me headed for home, Did...

    First finds of the year

Boy did it feel good to swing a coil for the first time since late November. It was cold with a few snow flurries in the air but I hit the same old pounded park this morning for a few hours. First signal was a memorial cent but a few feet away I got a nice sweet sounding deep signal. Dug down...
