First find of 2014...Not much but ya' gotta start somewhere !

Met up with Park Pirate this morning and was able to chisel one keeper from the frozen tundra. Boy did it feel good to finally get back at it after almost four months dealing with this endless Winter. Only dug this 1925 Buffalo nickel along with a clad quarter and a Jefferson nickel during the...

A couple more keepers from semi-frozen ground.

Temps near 50 today so I hit the usual park hoping to squeeze a few more finds before weather turns lousy again tomorrow. Hit a trashy area and was lucky to pull a 1936 Buffalo nickel masked by a nail and a 1935 mercury dime hiding under a 1964 nickel. Both were awful signals and I was quite...

Tough weekend but managed a few keepers.

A lot of swinging digging a ton of trash trying to sniff out a few more good ones before the big freeze gets here. All I could manage to pull from the ground were an 1883 and 1904 indian head cent, a crusty buffalo nickel and a chinese cash coin. Hope to get in at least another couple of hunts.

Finally got around to counting and sorting 26 years worth of dug wheat cents !

Finally got to one of my retirement projects ! Took about 4 nights and maybe 8 hours but I went through my jug of wheat pennies I dug over the last 26 years. I was guessing maybe 3-4 thousand were in there and final count was right at 3500. I only separated by decade and did look at each coin...

Silver, gold and a few coins too !

Hit another little hot spot in one of the city parks this week. First hunt there produced the nice little 10K signet ring with FFW '37 inscribed, the .925 silver and malachite ring, a1919 mercury dime and 1908 and 1893 indian head cents. Today from the same area I dug another 1908 indian head...

    Some recent finds.

Went back to the hillside where I had the nickel grand slam last weekend with a smaller coil. The coins I found there previously were very shallow so I thought some better target separation might get me a few more keepers. That seemed to do the trick as the first coin I dug there was the 1941-D...

Today's finds including a nickel grand slam !

Met up with Park Pirate this morning for some detecting at a different city park than usual. Hit a hilly area where BRATNY found a nice shield nickel in the past. We got skunked in that area so we moved on to another spot. I get a shallow nickel signal I figured was a new Jefferson but from a...

    A few from this weekend.

Had to take advantage of this terrific Fall weather and get out for some detecting. Hooked up with Park Pirate at a couple different parks and was able to come away with a 1961 Roosie and a gorgeous full liberty 1902 Indian head cent yesterday. Today I dug the 1888 and crusty Indian head cents...

Spanish silver and a few indian head cents.

Met up with Park Pirate this morning and was lucky to dig a few good ones. First keeper was a nice 1879 indian head cent that was a deep one. A short time later I dug the 1906 indian head cent. Then I get a signal that I thought might be something good. It was a nice upper right corner hit on...

Today's nice Barber and other recent finds

Here is a shot of some of the finds I dug over the last week while out detecting with Park Pirate. The Barber dime was a deep find this morning hiding next to a rusted nail. The ABC button actually showed up in my Albert's book as a NY67A, Albany Burgesses Corps button. Finds are getting tougher...

Found Bandit and Sheriff Justice but no sign of Cletus !

Dug these two cars while out detecting this morning. Thought it was kind of weird since I just watched Smokey and the Bandit a couple of days ago !!! If only I could have dug an 18 wheeler to complete the set !! I'll get that sombitch tomorrow !!!

Dug a beautiful semi-key date Indian head cent this morning

After digging a couple wasted indian head cents over the weekend I thought I would hit another park where the soil is very kind to coppers in hopes of digging a nice indian head cent or two. Wasn't disappointed when I dug a beautiful 1873 Indian head cent this morning. Didn't even realize it was...

Park Pirate left a few for me !!!

Tony (Park Pirate) has been on fire the last few weeks but he leaves a few crumbs for me so I don't get too depressed watching him dig all those coins ! The '47 quarter was from last weekend and this morning I dug the'54 quarter that was surrounded by iron. A couple of nasty indian head cents...

A nice Barber and some crusty finds from morning hunt.

While Park Pirate is stuck at work I figured I better get out and dig some coins before he gets them all. Went out for a few hours this morning to a park that produced well years ago but has been hunted hard with few good targets remaining. Started out with a buffalo nickel and then a very deep...

    Nickel and gold streak continues.

Seems all I can find lately are old nickels and gold rings, which is not a bad thing. I would like to see some silver or indian head cents once in a while though. Out with Park Pirate this morning hitting some hillside sidewalk areas in our old faithful park. First good target I dig was the 1911...

    Reward for good deed !!!

I have been sitting on a 1963 class ring I dug on January 1, 2012. I thought how neat it would be to return to owner on the 50th anniversary of their graduation. Unfortunately the school merged with another Catholic high school back in the 1970's.I emailed the headmaster of the "new" school and...

A little gold, silver and copper !!!

Had a couple of productive hunts over the weekend. A 1947 Roosie from a city park that rarely gives up any silver. That one was masked by a pulltab in the same hole. One of the indian heads also had a beaver tale in there masking the signal. A real surprise was the 18K band I dug yesterday out...

shallow clad signal turns out to be 162 year old coin!

Met up with Park Pirate at the same old hunted out park. We were just about to give up on this place and move on to greener pastures. Every time we're about to call it quits there, she gives up a few more finds to keep us coming back. Park Pirate had a couple good finds and then he walks over...

After 9 weeks on the DL, I'm finally back detecting. Today's meager find !

Broke my right hip in a cycling accident on May 20 and had 3 titanium screws inserted. Been a long couple of months basically housebound. Finally healed enough where I could get rid of crutches and give detecting a try. Walking is no problem but bending down to retrieve target and standing back...

First finds with the new AT Pro

Got out with a friend this morning and hit some cellar holes with the new AT Pro. Thanks to Tim for helping me with the initial set-up. Was able to dig two crusty coppers from one cellar hole. Too bad both are in such bad condition. One appears to be a Classic Head (1808-1814) style large cent...
