    My Saturday's finds

Met up with Park Pirate this morning to try to pull a few more out of our favorite hunting grounds. I couldn't top his nice 1870 indian head cent but I did manage a decent 1889, a no date Buffalo nickel and V nickel. These three bring my total up to 1028 keepers out of there !!!

Change of scenery paid off this morning

Park Pirate and I took a break from our usual park this morning and headed uptown to another location. I finally dug some coins other than nickels. All the finds were tough targets masked by bottle caps, pull tabs and a lead fishing sinker. First find was a 1925 merc followed up by a nice 1875...

    A couple Saturday morning finds

Back to digging Buffalo nickels with a 1920 and 1927 dug this morning in the same area where I found the three V nickels yesterday. Also managed a nice 1888 indian head cent from Park Pirate's hot spot. Going to hit a different park tomorrow hoping for additional indian heads and maybe some silver.

After work finds. Finally something other than Buffalo nickels !

Had a couple of hours to kill before tonight's Albany Devils AHL hockey game so what better way to pass the time than hitting my favorite park only a half mile from the arena. After a string of 13 Buffalo nickels, I finally dug some deep signals which turned out to be V nickels. I got three of...

    This morning's lone find !

Another tough day at the old park. Park Pirate did alright with a merc and the ipod but after 3 hours all I had to show was a 1900 indian head cent, a modern Jefferson nickel and a memorial cent. The indian cleaned up real nice after a hot peroxide soaking.

A couple of Saturday morning finds.

Met up with Park Pirate this morning but the finds are getting tougher to come by at the old park. I finally broke my indian head slump but not before adding yet another buffalo nickel to this year's totals. The indian head was an 1863 fattie which contains what ??? Nickel of course ...

Today's after work finds. Barber, Buffaloes and a chicken !

Just had to take advantage of this fantastic weather today for my first work day hunt. Back to the same area of the park where Park Pirate and I have been having great luck lately. First good find was the 1926 Buffalo nickel. Then I dug the little pewter chicken. I love finding those old toys...

A couple of crumbs Park Pirate left for me !!!

So when I arrive at the park this morning, Park Pirate already has two silvers in his pouch. Over the next hour all I hear is him telling me "Indian head, another Indian head, another indian head, another indian head, V-nickel, Buffalo nickel", etc, etc, etc....Meanwhile I have a case of the...

1st two silvers of the year.

Met up with Park Pirate and BRATNY at the usual city park this morning. Finally dug my first silver of the year, an 1892 Barber quarter only about 3 inches deep. Was expecting to see clad so I just popped a clump of dirt without digging my usual nice round plug. Thank God I didn't put my digger...

    My find of a lifetime.....Gold coin !!!

Well it only took 24 1/2 years but I can finally cross a gold coin off my wish list. Met up with Park Pirate this morning at our favorite hunted-out park. Decided to hit the hills in hope of finding an Indian head cent or two. After the first half hour I only had a Buffalo nickel. Moved a little...

    Golden start to 2012

Met up with Park Pirate this morning for our first hunt of the 2012 season. Rather uneventful except for the nice 1963 10K class ring I dug. Was hoping for a couple old coins but I can't be disappointed with finding gold. Ring is from a local high school that merged with another Catholic High...

    Final finds of 2011

Hard to believe we're still digging in Upstate New York. Ground in sunny areas is frost free and only a slight frost in shaded spots. No snow what-so-ever. I noticed that Park Pirate and BRATNY were still digging so I gave it a try this afternoon. Did manage a nice 1905 Indian head cent and a...

    Got a couple more today.

Hooked up with Park Pirate and BRATNY this morning back at the same old park where I nailed coin #1000 yesterday. Not much luck at first with only a wheat cent to show for the first hour or so. Things got better when I crossed the road to a different section. First good find was the 1944-P war...

    #'s 999 & 1000

Met up with Park Pirate this morning determined to dig those last 2 oldies to hit the 1000 coin total from the old inner-city park. I figured I might as well keep trying for those deep nickel signals since we cleared all the high tones out of there ! After maybe a half hour I found number 999...

    #'s 997 and 998 plus bonus gold !!

Met up with Park Pirate this again this morning hoping to snag those last 4 coins to hit the 1000 mark. Good signals were no where to be heard today. Started digging deep nickel signals in hope of finding a V or buffalo. Was getting real tired of digging beaver tails and can slaw but was finally...

    Count down to 1000 - #'s 994-996

Some fellow forum members asked that I keep them updated on my quest to dig 1000 old coins from this one particular city park. Today I dug three more during a short 2 hour hunt with Park Pirate. Today's 1880 Indian head cent, 1884 V-nickel (just missed the key date by one year !) and 1943-S war...

Weekend finds....Park Pirate left one silver for me !

Tony (Park Pirate) has been nailing some deep silvers this weekend. I followed his lead today a dug a real deep signal that hit way down lower right on the smart screen. Sounded too good to be junk. After digging at least 8 inches down, I was rewarded with nice 1912 Barber dime. Also added a...

    Today's lone find

Park Pirate and I were taking a good beating from the old ghetto park today. After 3 hours we didn't even have a wheatie to show between the two of us. We hit an area we have really pounded and I decided to dig this real iffy sounding signal. I heard a hint of a high pitch but the cross hairs...

A crusty Indian head cent and nice civil war token

Met up with Park Pirate this morning and we were lucky to pull a few old coppers from the ground. All I could manage was a crusty what looks like 1888 Indian head cent and a nice 1863 Civil War token from a store that back in the day was located close to the park we were detecting. Park PIrate...

    Today's Indian head cent trifecta

Was beginning to think all the Indian head cents were gone from our hunted out parks since I haven't dug one in about a month !! Broke the slump this morning with 3 nice ones. 1903, 1905 and 1899. All with great liberty detail and not too much copper rot on them. Been a decent year for Indian...
