A silver pocket find to get me through the Winter !!!

Six weeks has passed since the ground froze solid here in Upstate New York. Two feet of snow on the ground with more on the way so I'm already in deep depression over not being able to do any coin shooting. When emptying my pockets yesterday, I saw a dark, worn Jefferson nickel and thought "...

Invited 3 indians, a shiny lady and a Saint over for Thanksgiving!

I managed to get out Thanksgiving morning for a couple hours. Back to the same area of the park where I've been doing quite well lately. Started off with a 1916 buffalo nickel and then dug the 1895 and 1886 indian head cents. Followed up those with the St. Christopher medal, school bus token and...

Back to the park this morning...6 more goodies !!!

Headed back to the same area of the park where I scored the 5 keepers from yesterday. No silver today but was pleased to dig 5 Indian head cents and a buffalo nickel. The top center indian head was a three coin sandwich with the 1891 indian head, 1911 wheatie and a still unidentified wheatie...

A few keepers from this morning

Got out this morning for a couple of hours and was lucky to snag a few more oldies before the season ends. First good find was the 1910-D Barber and 1923 Mercury dimes out of the same hole at about 8". They were surrounded by so much trash that I couldn't use pin point mode. Had to zero in...

Strange Bust half dime dug today

Dug this Capped bust half dime this morning at a local park that was a parade ground back in civil war era. The condition of the reverse in excellent but the obverse of the coin has me stumped. At first I thought the coin was well worn or filed smooth but a close look reveal some doubling of the...

An Indian and two shiny ladies

Hit the same park I detected yesterday that gave up the 5 Indian heads and a V-nickle. Hoped for a few more of those nice cents. Had an uneventful start finding a few wheat cents and then a deep, iffy signal caught my attention. After digging down the length of my X-1 probe, I pulled a 1912...

A few Indians and GAR ribbon holder from todays' hunt

Hit one of my favorite spots for Indian head cents today. The soil in this park is very kind to Indian heads and wheaties. After a few minutes in peroxide, they look great. Hit a little hot spot today and dug the 1883, three 1902s and 1904 Indian heads. Also dug the 1892 V-Nickel and a nice...

Silver lining to a lousy detecting year.

This detecting season has been my worst since I began this hobby over 20 years ago. Combination of high gas prices, home remodeling, lousy weather and hunted out parks have really limited my finds this year. In a normal year, I would have dug a total of over 100 silver, Indian head cents and...

Finally found something worthy of posting.

Its been a slow start this year with only a few indian head cents, Buffalo and v-nickels found. Yesterday I broke the silver slump with the 1895 Barber quarter. Today I dug the 1915-D Buffalo nickel, 1911 V-nickel, 1899 Indian head cent, Albany lead seal and was pleasantly surprised to dig the...

    Some weekend finds

Been a slow start to the year with only some Indian head cents and a few Buffalo and V nickles to show for my efforts. Yesterday I broke my silver slump with a 1895 Barber quarter. This morning I dug the 1911 V-nickel, 1915 Buffalo nickel,1899 Indian head cent, Albany lead seal and then was...

Where theres wheaties, theres silver !!!!

I alway live by the credo that if you're digging wheat cents, you're gonna dig silver. After digging 8 wheaties yesterday at a pounded city park, I returned today bound and determined to dig some silver. First signal I dug after exiting the car this morning was a 1920-S mercury dime. Dug about a...

Finds from the last couple of outings

Nothing great but still nice to pull this stuff out of the supposed hunted out city parks. 1916, 1920 & 1937 mercs, 1892 V-Nickel, a couple 1920s Buffalo nickles and a half dozen indian head cents. Got lucky yesterday and dug the 14K religious medal. Nice to get one that wasn't silver or plated.

    A few from Saturday's hunt

I just complained to Charles that I was in a Barber slump but that all ended yesterday. The 1907 Barber dime was playing hide and seek up against a wasted V nickel but I was able to find her. You can see the nice green crust where the dime sat for all those years. Just a few minutes later I get...

Hey Charles, I broke that Barber slump today.

Good old LP gave up 2 Barber dimes today (1892 & 1907)plus 3 Indian head cents and a couple V-nickels. I'll post a photo tomorrow. Any detecting in New Hampshire yet ??

New Hampshire, beware Charles (Eastern NH)............

Charles (Upstate NY) will soon be Charles (Eastern NH). He finally realized that he sucked every last silver coin out of New York and he decided to move to more productive grounds. Stop him if you can. He is like a swarm of locusts and won't move on until he depletes the Live Free or Die State...

A few finds from before the Storm

With snow, sleet and rain in the forecast for Sunday I figured I had better get out Saturday for some detecting. No silver but I did get a nice assortment of Indian heads (1863 Fattie, 1887, 1901, 1903,a green crusty one and a worn no dater), 3 Buffalo nickles and a 1908 V-Nickel. Also found a...

First coin hunt of the year...at least I did get one silver.

Hit the good old hunted out ghetto park Charles and I refer to as the "Swine". This park has great sandy soil that is very kind to Indian head cents. Unfortunately, they didn't want to come out and play today. I did get 10 wheaties, a no date Buffalo nickel and a 1941 Mercury dime. Never gets...
