Anyone tried this with their detectors

Any more on what the shaft is made of? The latest fad is carbon fiber which is electrically conductive. In itself it probably wouldn't be an issue, but it's possible the carbon fiber conductivity may act as an extension of the upper metal shaft.

Leaning heavily to a Deus 2.. and have a cool question..,

I can't speak for the D2, but for the D1 I have both 9 and 11 inch coils. All settings being equal, on a quarter, I got over 2 inches more depth with the 11" coil. I can't see why it wouldn't be the same for the D2. However, I've only got the 11" coil on that detector so I can't compare...

    Rookies or people not caring

I have a Tesoro I purchased some 30 years ago. Guess I should have checked the manual before making a blanket statement. Thanks to both of you for correcting me, it makes me happy I'm at least partially wrong on that point.

    Rookies or people not caring

Skunks don't leave the discarded metal trash they dug next to the hole. However, some nocturnal animals will re-dig a detectorist's plug overnight. Not sure why, maybe they smell something or think another animal buried food. I know this because I've had it done to me.

    Rookies or people not caring

I saw the same in a soccer park I frequent. Nothing infuriates me more than seeing the real potential of losing a site to detect. I've often wondered why detector mfg.'s never include instructions for proper target retrieval. After all, their industry relies on the availability of locations to...

Who’s using their d2 flat out?

This is just FYI. I can't speak to the Deus as I've never run my D1 or D2 on max sensitivity. I noticed on a couple older VLF detectors I owned in years past, that when I raised the sensitivity to max, they would pinpoint in a different location from a lower sensitivity setting. I'm sure the PP...

    Ring ID

Thanks for that info Rick, it does have the look of a bubble gum machine prize from that era. I will Google using that info to see if I can find more.

    Ring ID

It seems to be something along those lines.

    Ring ID

Looking for help identifying this ring, it looks old. I found it in a soccer park that used to be a farm as far back as the 1870's, so it could have been dropped in the past couple years or lying there for a century. It appears to be silver dipped, but the metal underneath also looks to be...

    Bullseye 140 mm pinpointer

If you are going to tear your PP apart and replace the switch, you want a micro SMD (Surface Mount Device) switch. Available on the "auction sites". Price is around $2 for 10pcs. The photo is an example, the particular type you need depends on what you find when you open it up. You better have...

Need some help identifying these two coils

Sorry I didn't elaborate Mike; I was in a rush. A lot of tech guys there from all over the world with experience in vintage detectors. They might be able to ID by winding resistance and pinout. There should be someone there that can help you with those unmarked coils. Good luck with your search.

    Tesoro Silver Saber help

This is from Geotech forum. You will note in the diagram that one of the RX wires is connected to the shield by a dotted line. This indicates that this connection is made inside the coil shell. Pins 3 and 5 should show low resistance based on the diagram so that is correct. Pin 2 shouldn't show...

Depth modification of detector circuit boards.

Think of a target as a bell. The soil as the atmosphere. The detector transmitter as the bell striker, and the receiver as your ear. No matter how hard you strike the bell, the sound is only going to travel so far depending on atmospheric conditions and size of the bell. The larger the bell...

Worked out site gives Silver Bangle

Conductivity wise, it's a complete ring so it would have been an object that had a large footprint for its relatively shallow depth. My guess is most people would have thought this was can slaw, Zinc mason lid, etc. and I'm guessing the TID was a little lower than what a silver half or dollar...

Have to start digging those zinc pennies?

Another 85 TID at the sports field (.925 necklace and pendent). The pendent is about the diameter of a nickel and fairly thick. I checked another XP forum that had a link to a person's notes on the D2. Although he only has one listing for a .925 silver ring without a size description, he got a...

    Is this even real?!!!

It looks like they found this site in an earlier expedition and came back equipped to record and search it. He handled the clay jars with such great care then rubbed dirt across an ancient gold coin. Indicates the person plans to melt the gold since selling the coins could bring unwanted...

Have to start digging those zinc pennies?

TID mostly depends on conductivity and the effect of nearby objects. Conductivity can be altered by mass, shape, and alloy, .925 is a specific alloy so that variable can be removed from the equation. Position rarely affects TID on shallow targets in my experience. For instance, a silver dime on...

Have to start digging those zinc pennies?

Here's my story and I'm sticking to it... I have the Deus-2 for a year now, moving up from the Deus-1. I had been doing mostly a farm fields and occasionally a rural park until this past week. I decided to go to a sports field and hunt for jewelry. So I modified the park program for shallow...

Charging problem with new hf elliptical coil

It's possible that it's almost fully charged. What does the indicator on your remote tell you about the charge level? If it's 3 bars, I would go out and use it until it's down to 2 bars or less and try again.
