    Is this something new?

It's actually been out for some time (around 8-10 years) but I don't think it got much traction.

    Coil charging clip

Agreed, a little stiff but works like a charm compared to the D1 original clip which had to be wiggled around until you got the charge pins to make contact.

    Curios signal what gives?

I can't say what the TID was but "clinkers" will give you a nice soft signal in certain programs at that TID range. They are burnt coal residue and often found at old homestead sites. They are often fairly lightweight, look like a stone, and blend in nicely with the dirt. I can't remember if a...

    Adjusting audio

You have to save it as a new program if you didn't already know.

wish i had not tried to change the battery in my x 35 coil

Agreed. If I was to guess, XP probably has a small CNC machine and fixture designed specifically for cutting out the cover so they can replace the battery and install a new cover the same as the old. If in fact there is an epoxy on the plug as kaolinwasher described, they probably unsolder the...

wish i had not tried to change the battery in my x 35 coil

That is not good advice, I tried and it's all but impossible. It causes way more damage to try to cut at the glue joint than to cut the indentation. If you cut along the glue joint, the plastic is so thin at that point that your razor knife will swell the side of the coil housing and quite...

    Core material

Unless something changed recently, US dimes, quarters, halves, and dollar coins after 1965 are still clad coins (Copper core with copper/nickel alloy bonded to the surface). The red on the clad is from the nickel alloy. Many nickels buried for a while will also have the red patina.

    Still learning

Apologies, I reread your initial post and I missed the part where you did air-tests. Hence, why I couldn't figure why you were asking about numbers. To give you an example of how conditions affect TID, in Michigan it's possible to find natural copper nuggets (float copper) left behind by the...

    Still learning

Not to be a smart ass, but can I ask you why you didn't just drop a nickel on the ground and see for yourself what the TID would be? You must remember, depth, orientation, soil mineralization, and adjacent targets can all affect TID by a few points, so make sure your tone breaks are set with...

wish i had not tried to change the battery in my x 35 coil

That's really interesting, my 9" coil was an early one (If I remember correctly a 2014 purchase) and it didn't have any adhesive of any kind holding the battery. The battery in my coil was only sandwiched in foam (still is, I didn't add adhesive when I re-assembled it), easy peasy. The...

wish i had not tried to change the battery in my x 35 coil

I changed the battery in my D1 coil. There was no glue of any kind in the coil battery compartment. That glue would concern me about doing my MF coil on the D2 in the future. That said, there may be a solvent you could use that would soften the glue without damaging the plug/circuit board...

Has another sent in mutilated coins to the mint recently ???

Wasn't shipping more costly than the value of the coins?

The art of plug cutting a thing of the past??

I agree DigDog, I don't understand the stubborn insistence of using relic shovel use in a public park or sports field. When using a relic shovel, one still has to kneel down to retrieve the target and seat the plug. It's not that a person can't cut a nice plug with one, it's the optics. One...

    Good Service

I had to send both Garrett pinpointers I've owned in for repairs. One of them failed twice, one failed while still under warranty. That's a pretty poor track record. I've used a whites TRX for the last 4-5 years without a single problem. When a tool doesn't need service, that's the kind of...

    Upgrade to the Deus 2?

Yes, I'm on the second charge clip for my D1. The first broke in half. However, it did last for around 1000 charges. As far as the foot, I never had an issue with it since I don't use it. I lay the detector on its side when I kneel to retrieve a target.

    Upgrade to the Deus 2?

Then stick with the Deus 1. Had I known it was going to be a lateral move, I wouldn't have gotten it. However prospecting, saltwater beach, and hot soil, is where the D2 will outperform the D1. I absolutely hate the D2 charge connector. As a skilled tradesman who works around industrial...

Is Metal Detecting on the Decline?

Metal detecting may not be on the decline, but participation on the forums sure is. I've been away from the forums for a couple years. I can't believe how dead it is. Days go by without a new post in brand specific forums. Even the main detecting forum only has one or two posts per day. Very...

Have you ever had hostility from people while You Detect.

I asked because some people do use relic shovels in parks, schools, and sports fields. Yes, I know that a nice plug can be dug with a relic shovel, but the Karens of the world don't care. They will run right up to city hall and complain. Next thing you know, there's an ordinance that bans...

Have you ever had hostility from people while You Detect.

Not in the last 20 years. Are you digging a soccer field or public park with a relic shovel?
