Has anybody been able to use the upper scale signal strength indicator to help ID a target with any Garrett machine?

I heard about this one, but so far have only found it as useful as the needle one on my tracker 4 (not much use!). If it was anywhere near as good as I heard, then it would be dynamite. Mick Evans.

Seeking information on the F4 and how it differs from the F75.

I've been on the Fisher home page, Kellyco's site and tried in vain to raise the Australian dealers site. There is very little information about the F4 in particular and am after a few details. Does it have the same TID number system as the F75? What does it weigh? I assume that it is a fixed...

    Enough is enough.

Due to continuous ongoing problems with my X-Terra 30, mostly from shutting down, I will be ringing up Minelab for the 3rd time tomorrow, to send it back for the 3rd time for repairs! This time I'll be demanding a replacement as this situation is ridiculous! It's little wonder I don't use...

Looking for advice to assist a newbie.

When I was out swinging my Ace yesterday, I was approached by a local, who wants to get into the hobby. He asked plenty of questions about the Ace, but after I asked him about what sort of detecting he wanted to due, I don't think that the Ace would be his best choice. He wants to hunt old Cob...

    Rewriting history B.T.?

I enjoyed reading yet another article by you in the latest Gem and Treasure. If what you are saying in the article, then It certainly changes the history books on who discovered the Welcome Stranger Nugget! This wouldn't be the first time that historical facts have been incorrect, as the Wright...

Is the Explorer a fixed ground balanced machine?

There is nothing in the instruction manual about it and assume that it must compensate by using different frequencies. I presume that this is why it is no good on the gold fields. Mick Evans.

Success with a change of approach.

I've finally started to put a bit of time in on the XS over the last couple of week ends. I've had it out a few times before but haven't been particularly impressed with the visual information that the XS gives. Mostly the unreliable depth metre and both slow and inconsistent read outs of...

    It has begun. (Off subject)

My older brother Geoff, who is a keen swimmer, has set himself the goal of swimming the English Channel. After spending the last 14 months in training, he took off for England a couple of weeks back for the attempt. Due to strict rules surrounding this swim, by the governing body (for the swim...

Finally! It has begun. (Off subject)

After waiting for just over a week for the English weather to settle enough, especially in the Chanel, my older brother Geoff, has commenced his assault on swimming the English Chanel! He started at 9pm London time (about an hour ago). Due to the strict rules that surround such a swim, for it to...

    Finds from my son's school.

Finally got the family back at the week end after they had a 2 week holiday. i had to borrow a friends car to take some petrol out to them as they ran out of fuel with only 25kms to go. The Falcon was telling the wife that she still had 29kms to empty when the engine quit. I had 4 hunts...

    John- Edmonton.

Hi John. I saw a post that you directed towards me, but before I could reply, it disappeared into cyberspace. I didn't know about being in the mag that you are talking about. Not that I mind though. I'm currently on the back of the local detecting mag, Gem and treasure. Guess that I'm flavour...

Cracked the $100 mark and found a Kiwi shilling in the process.

I've put in 3 hunts into my son's school over the last week. I had a cracker of a hunt last Saturday for modern coins with a total just under $63. Combining this week ends hunts, I managed to get those totals up to $104.72. Yesterday started a bit slow and I was digging most good signals...

Decided to pay more attention to signal with yesterday.

I've been hearing a bit about listening to signal strength lately, so I decided to pay attention to it when I went hunting yesterday. After seeing off the family for another trip to Sydney (sure wish I could have gone) I broke down the Ace to it's smallest package, so that it would fit into my...

Congratulations Bounty Hunter on finally opening up a forum.

It's good to finally see. I was trying to get some info on some Bounty Hunters several months back, but didn't find a single forum. I don't own a Bounty Hunter at the moment, but a Tracker 4 was my first detector. The 3300 sounds like an interesting machine. Having a forum like this, will make...

    Audio/visual ID question

Is it normal for the Explorer to give a high fluty tone while giving a reading of ten on the metre? The detector is an XS, and it is set up on standard factory presets. This was only one reading of quite a few mismatched visual/audio readings that I've been getting and this is after numerous...

Had my best hunt for the year.

G'day all. Took the Ace at for a hunt yesterday and finally hit some pay dirt with it. It's been a fairly quiet year for finds, so it was nice to have a good coin count. Even scored a couple of rings and a letter opener in the bargain. Total for the day was $39.09. Given that I figured that...

Is the Explorers advanced features it's own worst enemy?

G'day all. I've been reading Mastering the Minelab Explorer this last week and while I was able to pick up a few good pointers, I was quite concerned about using the discrimination patterns that are described in it. While it is convenient to knock out undesirable targets, wouldn't doing this...

    Pictures of first finds.

G'day All. Got a couple of hours in the field with the Explorer over the week end, plus a bit of experimenting at home today. It's not a large amount of finds, but to be expected on a new machine. I was pretty stoked though when I found the half penny, which was just under the surface and my...

    Blown away!

I received my XS Explorer yesterday and managed to get out for a 90 minute hunt this afternoon. Firstly, I couldn't believe the price, slightly cheaper than my what X-Terra 30 cost. It is also the first detector that I have been able to buy out of my finds money. I had originally thought of...

Weight Difference between the Quattro and the Explorer.

I've been looking closely at both these detectors. I have noticed that the Quattro only weighs 1700 grams (3pounds 7 ounces) without it's battery pack and from memory, the Explorer weighs 1900 grams. Is this Correct? Also, I was wondering if the audio system on these machines are the same? I...
