    Frequency discrimination?

I'm quite impressed with what I'm reading about the V3 and would be interested to know how using the 3 different frequencies are at IDing targets, ie pull tabs and gold rings eta. Is using the dominate frequency, plus watching how the other 2 frequencies behave, a more reliable system of...

    A couple of 1350 questions.

Can the 5x10 Scorcher coil for the GTI's be used on the 1350? Is the recovery speed of the 1350 about the same as the 1500 when it is armed with the DD coil, or is it as slow as the GTI with the imaging coil on it? I'm assuming that because the imaging coil has 2 receive coils, the 1350 would...

Got to love the long tones!

I took the XS out today and decided to change the settings. After a bit of a play around at home, I changed it from factory settings to fast on and set response to audio 2. What a huge difference it made to telling targets apart. I've struggled with it on normal response, but in audio 2, coins...

How does the Safari cope with crown caps?

Do they sound like coins or does the Safari give you clues that you have a twist top (crown cap) under the coil? ie. jumpy numbers scratchy tones eta. Mick Evans.

Had some success with a new pinpointing technique.

I played around with my X-Terra 30 yesterday to see if I could gain some more target information. So after being successful, I took it out on a hunt and put it to good use. It involves using the VCO pinpoint to tell the difference between screw caps and coins. After the target is located, go...

    Question about the 99 tones.

Without having another X-Terra 70 for a reference point, I was wondering if it's normal for the tones to sound strangled a bit, when in 99 tones? When in 4 tones, the tones are clean. Thanks. Mick Evans.

Just got smacked between the eyes by the obvious.

Sometimes the blatant obvious isn't so obvious. I was mucking around at home with a few of my detectors, mostly both the X-Terra's and found a dead simple way of telling pull tab from coin. Des Dunne made an innocuous comment in a nearby post about the X-Terras being tuned to give solid signals...

To dig or not to dig? That is the question

I finally got the opportunity to hunt a park today in a town that is a 100 miles to the north. My son had a 4 day came there that had a lot to do with Astronomy (near Siding Springs Observatory). I was going to use my brand new X-Terra 70, but after taking it out on it's second outing yesterday...

    Video - White's Vision - 2009 Treasure Show

It's not hard to see why you are so impressed by it. Thanks for taking the time to post your videos. I quite enjoyed them. Mick Evans.

    Broke the 70 in today.

I went back to my favourite site today to play with the 70 and had some good fun. I pulled out over $20 only 6 days ago with the GTI, but due to the fact that the local farmers market restocked it this mornng, made it fair game again. It provided some opportunity to play around with the...

    Zinc pennys and bottlecaps.

I think that you will adapt to the new screen really well. Not only is the wave form narrower on the coin, if you look closely, you will notice that the vertical markers showing the start and finish of the waive form are also line up differently on each of these targets. As I indicated in...

    Some target testing with Pics

I find that on a number of detectors, you can often figure them out through pinpoint. With the XLT, if you set the pinpoint sensativity to 23, then the VCO give you a very distint difference between these 2 targets. Their are other ways with other detectors, but I really like what I'm seeing...

    Some target testing with Pics

That is by far the best target information on any detector that I've ever seen! It will be interseting to see how it performs out in the field with mixed targets and hunting for good targets next to other targets. Whites have every right to be well pleased with themselves on this project. It...

    Behaviour of gold nuggets?

Does anybody know whether gold nuggets (that are big enough to give a positive reading) tend to give a more steady reading when you switch over to disc mode or can their irregular shape cause the meter to bounce all over the place? Thanks. Mick Evans.

    I have a Vision!

Who knows, you might just see the light! Sorry. I couldn't help myself. It was just too tempting to pass up an opening like that. I do hope that you have many hours of enjoyment with your new machine. Mick Evans.

Masking, Depth and the Inevitable Comparisons

Well said Steve. I've offered information like that in the past, only to have accusations thrown my way and I'm only a hobby user. So I can imagine what you'd cope. Mick Evans.

The GTI 1500 12 months on.

As tomorrow is 12 months to the day since I bought the 1500, I decided that I should bring it's total up to the next even $100 mark. So I took it out for a couple of hunts this week end. yesterday, I took it to my favourite haunt, a park that has the local farmers market in it twice a month...

    Question about the 3kHz coil.

I'm seriously thinking of trading in the XT30 on Tuesday (got to take my son for some tests in Sydney and will be in the next suburb to the detecting shop). If I were to buy the low frequency coil, how would it go at hearing smaller coins? The reason I ask, is that with the X-Terra 30, our $2...

Took the XS for a spin.

I've started hunting with the XS after a long sabbatical. A hunt late Sunday was a picture perfect hunt just on dusk and yesterday was no different. I hunted on my favourite site (a farmers market) in the late afternoon sun. While hunting, I had a bridal party pass by in a classic open carriage...

Took the 30 out for a spin today.

I've only played with it once in the last 5 weeks and quite enjoyed it. It was around 40 degrees, so a bit on the warm side. The good news is, that it kept the ankle biters away so that I could hunt in peace. I seem to get a hoard following me around of late almost regardless of where I hunt...
