    Hunting Dense Wooded Areas

Can anyone give me a good argument for hunting dense wooded areas. I need to venture off into new territories and have yet to hunt forests and woods. These areas date back to the 19th Cent. but not sure how much people used them. I often see YouTubes of MD'ers hunting forests and woods with...

    Xterra armcuff broken

Does anyone know where I can buy a new armcuff for my 705? Mine snapped where the Velcro strap attaches on one side. Kellyco shows one but says it is no longer available for order. My detector is out of guarantee.

    First Walking Liberty

Just scratched another off of my "to find list". Hunted an old park where many carnivals were held in the past. An old friend told me where the beer tent used to be set up so I spent a couple of hours carefully hunting the area. Scored this 1944 Walking Liberty Half along with about $2.00 in...

    MY First Buffalo!

I have been waiting two years for my first Buffalo and found it yesterday. You can even read the date. It might be my last good find of the season because the cold weather is setting in here in W. Illinois. HH Chuck

    My Latest Indians

Just found two more Indians with my new 9" 3Khz coil. The 1902 is almost pristine and you can see all of the details. The 1903 is OK but not as nice. I really love the new coil and am totally amazed by the depth I am getting. Have not found any silver yet but know that I will get some soon...

    Gray Ghost Headphones

Just purchased a pair of Original Gray Ghost Headphones and tried them out today. I immediately noticed that the tone separation, especially in the higher tones was not suitable. They were comfortable but the tone problem was bad enough for me to send them back. I had been using Garrett...

    Pinpointing mastered!

I finally mastered the art of pinpointing thanks to Randy. After relying on the standard method by using the pinpointing button which yielded mixed results, then switching to the prospecting mode with even more mixed results, I decided to try a method that Randy had mentioned in his guide and...

    Depth Reading on 705

I have been noticing that the depth readings on my 705 are far deeper than the actual target. Has anyone else experienced this? What factors might affect the depth readings?

    Sanborn Maps?

Does anyone have a ID and Password for the Sanborn Maps site? I used to be able to log on without difficulty but they now require an ID and Password. Thanks Chuckciao

    First Barber Quarter

I finally found my first Barber Quarter (1899). In was in my old park that I have been hunting for almost a year. After reading one of Diggers posts recommending to hunt the edge between the grass and the sidewalk, I decided to do it and scored this beauty. I also got a lot of nice signals...

    Lead Bullet

I found this lead bullet, fully mushroomed, but when I cleaned it and looked at the back, I could see the original diameter of the bullet (9mm). As you can see, it is a milky white. Although this is nothing spectacular, I would really like to get an idea of its age. Can anyone tell me how...

    Heat and Humidity

Has anyone had to curtail their hunting due to the heat and humidity? I am in far western Illinois and have tried to go out in the early AM to hunt but can only manage between one and two hours before the heat and humidity have drained all of my energy. We have averaged 95 degrees and 75 +...

    Finally Broke my Silver Drought

Finally a 1908 Barber Dime after many months of a silver drought. I also scored a fairly nice 1888 Indian and I can just about read the Liberty on the head dress. Also, another Indian with a completely obliterated face but I can just make out the faint impression on the read.

    Bug Problems on Hunt

In my last few hunts, I have been attacked by Mosquito's and other small bugs. Have been using Cutter Insect Repellent Wipes but they do not seem to work on these pests. Can anyone suggest so good insect repellent that can keep those pests away. thanks Chuck

    Question about TID'S for Pennies

I have been noticing that I am almost consistently getting TID's for pennies in the 38 and even sometimes in the 40 range. Can anyone explain what is causing this. I am using an X-Terra 705 with a 10.5MF DD, and my ground balance readings are usually between 20-40 in the park I usually hunt...

    Today's Finds

The temp. did not get above 32 today but I decided to get out for a couple of hours. Found a Harley Davidson Sterling Silver Ring, Small Silver Wire Ring with Stone, a French Centime 1913 (Surprise find for a Western Illinois Park!), and about a dollar in clad.

Some early finds with new 10.5 MF DD

Have spent about 6 hours with my new 10.5 MF DD and am very impressed with it to say the least. I have found over 8$ in clad and my oldest Indians and Wheaties to date in the same park I have been hunting over the past year. This is the best coil I have used with my 705 and I doubt if I will...

    Selling Gold and Silver

Happy New Year to All Forum Members. While my detector and I sit and wait until the end of Winter, I was pondering the possibility of selling my gold and silver finds from last year. I am new to selling my finds but I have 4 gold and silver rings and a few more silver pieces and a gold plated...
