    Ace 300 coil question

I agree with you. It's so much easier to stick with Garrett if that's what you started with. They all share some DNA making the learning curve quite simple. The VORTEX Series are a very good capable metal detector line using those bars on the screen.

Garrett Metal Detectors Love Coins And Jewelry!

I had to take a few runs at downloading the installer. I haven't a clue what I did, but I got it working. If you get stuck, call Garrett and they will work you through it 1-800-234-6151

Garrett Metal Detectors Love Coins And Jewelry!

 Ha! That stuff looks awfully familiar. If you ain't digging the trash, you ain't getting the good stuff. Simply put, it's the best way to learn your machine.

Garrett Metal Detectors Love Coins And Jewelry!

Got a foot of snow during the last couple of days. With this down time, I did a total of my finds so far this year. These were all found with either the AT Pro or my new Vortex VX9. Switching from the AT Po to the VX9 was a very easy transition. What I thought might be challenging (I struggle...

"BINGO!" I Got 3 Rings Today With The VX9

I was going to go prospecting again today, but the river was too high and the frozen ice is beginning to break up making things a bit dangerous. So, I loaded up my VX9 and hit some parks and schools. Some of the coins were from the other evening, but the rings were from today. Here's a pic...

The Vortex VX9 Is Really Turning Into A Coin Vacuum

Good to hear from you. I just retired at 70, and metal detecting and gold prospecting are my activities to stay healthy for retirement. So far, so good. I'm living the dream.

The Vortex VX9 Is Really Turning Into A Coin Vacuum

Here's another trick. Got an iffy coin/cap signal? Stomp hard on top of the target. If it's a bottle cap, it will now read differently. If it's a coin, it will still read the same ID. What you are doing is changing the immediate soil matrix (halo) composition around the coin, which is what...

If the bottle caps are metal, yes.

    Update on Vortex

That's a great description on how you are learning the VX9. I am mostly a coin hunter, and proud of it too! I am also finding the VORTEX easy to identify various targets.

    Update on Vortex

I too am 70. This hobby will keep my joints working, my mind sharp, my heart in decent condition and a good night sleep. I was a Registered Nurse in a orthopedics word and mostly dealt with hip and knee replacements and retired at 69 after 33 years. I saw some pretty de-conditioned bodies come...

The Vortex VX9 Is Really Turning Into A Coin Vacuum

The last couple of days I put in about 5 hours in parks. I just love those bars on the screen. I often get the same information on the bars at the same time, just like swinging the coil at different angles. Questionable iron can easily be identified just running the outside of the coil over the...

Using The 3 Bars On The Vortex Screen On Bi-Metallic Coins To ID Them

No I haven't. I hope someone else who has might chime in on that one.

    Ace 300 coil question

I too just retired less then a year ago. The goal was to keep healthy and active both metal detecting and prospecting for gold. Congratulations on your retirement. Enjoy!
