    OLD SETTLERS SITE FINDS TODAY

I went to the old settlers site today to hunt a cornfield where the old 1872 atlas maps show a homesite once stood. The actual grove where the old settlers reunions were held is still grown up in weeds and grass and isn't huntable, but the corn has been picked out of the field and the cornstalks...

can anyone tell me what this is?

I found this at an old house site a couple of years ago and kinda forgot about finding it. I looks to be the center part of a larger object with what looks like a crude indian head on the front side and an eagle with spread wings and arrows sticking up near its feet. It is made of a heavy metal...

10x12 DD COIL ON THE VAQUERO

Anyone using a 10x12 DD coil on their Vaquero? Is it deeper than the stock coil? I prefer the concentric coils for my area, but Tesoro only makes the 10x12 coil in a DD configuration. Any pros or cons with the 10x12 DD coil would be appreciated. I want a larger coil for more coverage in the old...

    Vaquero gets V nickel today

I found this 1887 V nickel today in the old picnic grove we have hunted for years. Also dug a couple .22 bullets and one unfired .22 round along with a few shotgun brass and square nails. So far the Vaquero has found 5 V nickels, 1 buffalo, 2 mercury dimes, 1 barber dime, 1 indian head penny...

Vaquero got another silver coin saturday

My hunting buddy and I got out for a few hours saturday. We went to the new picnic grove and tried to hunt in the tall weeds but it is just to hard to hunt. We even made a little device like you see people making crop circles with...a 3' wide board with a rope handle to flatten the weeds down...

    Vaquero question

Will my Vaquero find a 1/4 carat diamond stud ear ring that was recently lost? I have the stock coil on my Vaquero and I would think it would hit the ear ring but thought I'd ask here first......thanks. Roger

    Vaquero with cleansweep coil questions

I'm thinking a cleansweep coil would be nice to have for my Vaquero. Can anyone tell me about how deep it goes and how easy it is to pinpoint with? I'm not a big fan of DD coils but have a situation where I need to be able to cover a large area and get at least 6 inches deep for coins and...

2 picnic groves found and permission to hunt granted

Tomorrow my buddy and I are going to check out 2 new sites we located with some help from old county atlas searches and from Google Earth satellite maps of the areas. Both sites are picnic groves that were in use in the 1860's and possibly earlier. An atlas dated 1872 told of these groves and...

    TODAYS FINDS WITH THE VAQUERO

My buddy and I headed over to the old picnic grove this morning for some coin hunting. We certainly picked a hot day to be out...95 degrees with this nice Illinois humidity made the heat index 115 degrees.....:surprised: We hunted in the shade of the big oak trees as much as possible and kept...

    FIRST SILVER WITH NEW VAQUERO

I took my Vaquero back to the old picnic grounds thursday afternoon. We have been hunting here since 1986 and have found many silver coins, indian head pennies, and old nickels here in the past, but finds have slowed down lately. The old grove covers at least 5 acres and still holds some coins...

    STINKIN' LINCOLNS

I hate digging those rotten zinc pennies that seem to be everywhere we hunt. They have bubbles on the surface, big chunks missing off the sides and are almost half eaten away from just a short period of being in the ground. Just butt ugly coins...blah! Unfortunatly those stinkin' lincolns need...

    SUNDAYS FINDS WITH NEW VAQUERO

I took my new Vaquero to my local football field sunday afternoon to see what I could find. Ended up with 16 quarters, 19 dimes, 51 stinkin lincolns, 11 wheaties, 4 nickels, and a clad Kennedy half dollar. Total for the day was 7.22. No gold or silver today. I'm not crazy about digging all that...

CZ5 and 5" coil gets barber dime and injun

Found these in a small town park today along with a couple dollars worth of clad coins. The injun was reading 7 inches and zinc on the CZ5...good solid hit with the 5 inch coil. 1904 injun in pretty crispy shape which is unusual as they normally come out looking pretty good with a nice green...

MY NEW VAQUERO IS HERE !

The big brown truck just made an appearance and left me my new Vaquero! Like a kid at Christmas, I unwrapped my present and quickly assembled my new beeper and waived a few coins under the coil to see how it would respond. Nice solid hits on all targets and at very good distances from the...

    NEW VAQUERO ON THE WAY

After trying a few different metered detectors I decided it was time to return to a beep and dig machine. After much thought on which detector I wanted, I decided on the Vaquero. From all the posts I have read about its performance I think I made the right choice. Although the Vaquero will share...

First hunt withe new X-TERRA 305

My new 305 came this morning and after some experimenting with it took it out for a hunt. Setting up the detector was simple and all settings are pretty well explained in the owners manual. I took the 305 to a site where I have hunted with several other detectors in the past so it has been well...

    is it possible.....

to buy just the control box from Minelab? If so what would the approximate cost be? It seems you could buy the 305 like I did and then add the controll box of say the 705.....This makes more sense to me than buying another complete detector. Just curious if anyone knows the answer.......thanks...

    x-terra 305 on the way

After reading all I could find on the X-Terra detectors I have a new 305 on the way. I have never owned a Minelab before and wanted to try one as a back up detector. The 305 looks to be a nice machine, just not all the bells and whistles the 505 and 705 has and the price is right on the 305 for...
