    Slow weekend...

But I did manage to find my 3rd Kennedy half-dollar. A 1971 in very good shape. This also happens to be my best find to date with my 5.3 coil. It gave me a steady 89 VDI and locked on $.50. About 5"down. On a side note, I had put in a long hunt at a park previous to this hunt and was told, as I...

    Gold nugget....in the park !

That's right folks, this nugget was found in a heavily hunted play area in the middle of the city. I had decided to kill a couple hours at sunrise, I had searched this spot before with my previous detector and came away with a grand total of 1 quarter and a couple pennies. Figuring I'd get a...

A new car !....and a little gas $

Alright the car's a hot wheel but it's a Ferrari 599 GTB and it's all mine ! ( actually only until it gets cleaned up and donated to a children's org. ) Had some fun doing a methodical second check of 2 spots I'd done before. $ 3.83 in clad with a 52' nickel and a 66' dime but no silver. I was...

More $1 coins and other weekend finds

As I mentioned in an earlier post, I didn't even know the presidential $1 coins existed before I found my first one on Friday (With George Washington on it, far left coin in the row of 3 $1 coins ). After that I proceeded to find one more on each of the next two consecutive days ( Polk...

    Washington $ 1.00 coin ?

Didn't even know these things existed but I found one anyway. It's a beautiful looking coin and it has writing stamped around the outside edge." E PLURIBUS UNUM - IN GOD WE TRUST - 2007 D. It registered as a quarter at 6". Dug it up in sand closer to 8". I have no idea what the normal color of...

    Silver....confirmed this time

Yeah I made sure that all 3 pieces are .925 stamped before I claimed silver finds this time. I even got lucky with the partial piece on the right just happening to be the part with the stamp. That's the second silver earring back I've found recently although this one was only down about 1-2"...

    Silver Bloom !

The MXT and I got back on the silver on Tuesday with these two beautiful flower pendants. Here's the kicker, both of these were found on the same day, on separate hunts 30 miles apart ! If anyone can explain that I'm all ears. BTW the silver rose on the right is pretty hefty and was giving a VDI...

    Managed to outlast the batteries.....

....and make a few finds on a 7 hr hunt on Monday. Made a brief stop at a tot-lot where I picked up a little clad and a junk post earring. I then went to a local State beach park and picnic grounds that has been a focal point of activity since at least the late 1800's and was "improved" in the...

    Silver Streak keeps rolling....

...and I'm loving the ride. When I uncovered the gold cross all I could say was " no way ! " and as it turned out I was right. It's plated but was still a thrill to uncover. It took a minute to get my heart re-started. I actually made my find of the day right before the cross. The small item on...

1st Silver Rosie ! And it gets even better...

I guess you can say you had a good day when you can find your first silver Roosevelt dime and it's not even your best find of the day. Day's total; $3.80 in clad,( one penny came gift-wrapped in scotch tape), 1 car wash token, 1 smashed penny, various pieces of junk jewelry, dolphin pin, pewter...

    Yesterdays Finds....

Hunted 2 older-location park play areas in a large city about 30 miles away yesterday. I figured that they had probably both been hit pretty hard and as I only had 2 hours to hunt, I decided to specialize and use my 6x10 DD to try and pry out any goodies hiding in close to the equipment and also...

    Coin I.D. info ?

Can anyone please tell me if there is a standard "coin bible" reference book that is used to determine coin values ? Hopefully something basically straight-forward and simple to reference i.e. not too technical. My brain gets lost in technical stuff. I was going through my entire collection of...

    Memo to ice-bound forum members

It looks like the weather is finally starting to turn for all of you poor souls who've had to try and get by on the new guy's ( me ) modest finds and misadventures. Now I'm certain that most of you have checked and rechecked every conceivable thing you can as far as your detectors and associated...

    Battery pack question ?

I was wondering what the rule of thumb is regarding changing out the relaceable ( 8 AA ) batteries in th Whites machines in general and the MXT in particular. As you probably know already, the " Low Batt " indicator shows when the voltage gets down to 8 volts. Should you replace them immediately...

    Almost didn't go out today...

    I'm glad I did !

    Same location, different day...

Decided to hunt a local area that I know has been hunted before. I'm certain of this because I hunted it about a month ago with my first detector ( Fisher 1280x ) I had prior to upgrading to the MXT. Maybe it's because this machine is so much more capable, maybe I've grown more skilled or maybe...

    I'm thinkin...

...that someone's trying to send me a message. I got out to hunt yesterday for about 45 min's. Hadn't been out in awhile and decided to do a small sand/play area that I cleaned up about 2 weeks ago so I wasn't expecting much. Just wanted to get out between storms and enjoy the weather. Ended up...

1 more and I'd have had a flush

Got out to hunt today for the first time in about a week. I pulled out $3.61 in clad and a host of other cool finds. Most interesting part was I found four heart-shaped pieces of jewelry. ( Yeah 2 are on 1 piece but I'm countin em as 2 ! ). The two small connected ones are .925. ( Hey, silver is...

    This is just wrong....

Spent 10 minutes chasing this nickel/ring signal. I understand that pull tabs are a demon we all have to deal with but come on ....!?! Has anyone else EVER come across this before ?

    MXT on wet sand ??

I'm pretty new at detecting and was wondering if anyone has any advice for using the MXT on the wet stuff. I live on the coast and would love to put that hunting niche onto my list of options but have so far been pretty frustrated at it. The problem, apparently, is the level of mineralization on...
