    Having a nice patina always helps. Not sure why some develope one and others dont. I've had Indian heads out of the same location in various states of decay. The ones with patinas are well preserved, while others will be corroded and unidentifiable even though they are of the same composition.

    Thank you for your thoughts Rick. The screw part is about 1/4 inch in dia. It's attached to the body by a small (non-corrosive) screw. I kind of thought maybe an ornate door buzzer actuator where the screw part is the contact point, but that's probably wrong. I will post better pictures later...
