    Deep Silver program question

Today I did some experimenting, and the results were frustrating. First I found a spot of "empty" ground. Swinging the coil gave me no signals, pinpoint gave no signals. Then I pulled out a plug 6" deep. The ground is dry today (dusty, even). Then I put a mercury dime at the bottom...

    Deep Silver program question

Thanks! The live control for frequency works great. I used it today on my lunchtime hunt to check a couple of possible targets, and it worked nicely. (I wound up not digging them -- today was the first day I've taken the V3 out and got skunked -- didn't find so much as a memorial cent. I...

    Deep Silver program question

Except that when you're in the Deep Silver program, there's only a single frequency, so you don't get to compare frequency response in the Analyze screen. You can always switch programs, but if you switch programs and you can no longer see the target, then what? Hence my original question...

    Deep Silver program question

Really? That's interesting. Nearly all the bottle caps I get read high, like a quarter. I don't think I've ever had one below 80. Difference in coil, maybe? I'm using the stock "D2" coil.

    Deep Silver program question

Ran "Deep Silver" for half an hour at lunchtime at an old house. Lots of iron in the yard (nails, mostly). I dug one bottle cap and one piece of aluminum (both ID'd as quarters), a clad quarter, 9 memorial cents, and a small ring (looks like maybe gold-plated, definitely not solid, with...

    Deep Silver program question

Me and my big mouth. It was pouring rain when I got up this morning.

    Deep Silver program question

It has been raining off and on this week, but not that much. The ground was a little moist -- not even really wet, just moist.

    Deep Silver program question

I'm getting pretty comfortable with the "Coin" program, so I have started trying to learn the "Deep Silver" program. I wanted to ask others using it -- how do you decide which signals to dig, and which to ignore? It's a single frequency program, so you don't have the other two frequencies to...

    vision/spectra v3 driving me crazy

Turn your gain down. Put in about 7, and it should quiet down. If it's still too noisy, turn it down some more. If it's quiet, you can try bumping it back up one number at a time. If I get phantom beeps like that, turning down the gain one or two numbers fixes it right up.

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

I went out again today for an hour or so, this time my family went along, and my kids got to take their first swing with a metal detector. They were using my old Garrett GTA 1000, which works sometimes, and I was following them checking their targets before we dug them. The kids did pretty...

I checked, and I don't have ratchet enabled. I have 1.1 software. However, you were right about me pulling the trigger while over the target. If I move the coil off to the side a bit, then pull the trigger, it behaves "normally", so the audio increases as the entire coil moves across the...

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

Another quick hunt today, another few coins (1 mercury dime, two memorial pennies), and a little more junk. New things I learned: VCO pinpoint wants to be right directly over the target before it makes any noise. That comes in handy if you want to measure the size of the target -- move it...

Is White's addressing the EMI problem. What are there fixes for the problem??? Thanks :D: :D:

Very true. I was at a location just yesterday where EMI was initially causing serious instability. But I was able to turn the gain down and run stable, and made a few finds. I remember thinking about it at the time and realizing that there are two ways to look at it -- you can either be...

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

I don't think I actually pinpointed along the handle. It does if you do your analyze pass across the "bowl" part, directly perpendicular to the handle, which is what I did. :) (Oddly enough, the spoon was oriented directly perpendicular to my line of travel -- bowl side facing me, handle...

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

OK, scratch what I said about the silver dimes VDI'ing higher than clad. Today's quickie hunt yielded 2 mercury dimes and a stainless steel spoon. The V3 thought the spoon was a quarter (even had a nice signagraph with all the frequencies in the right places). The 2 dimes were...

    Second Thoughts on V3

Most of the time I'm in coin mode or coin and jewelry. Factory settings except I have tone ID and VCO pinpoint on. The ground probe typically recommends gain of 15. I can run 15 at home (right outside the room with the wireless router). At the building I hunt in town, I have to turn it down...

    Second Thoughts on V3

I don't know about the relic issue, but I do know that wireless internet, cell phones, and buried power lines do NOT interfere with my V3. I have all those at my house and it doesn't interfere with the V3 at all.

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

At least with the ones I found today, yes. Checking them now in the air, the clad has a VDI of 76, the silver has a VDI of 80. I have "Tone ID" turned on, and the silver has a noticeably higher pitch when it hits. The signagraph looks about the same on both of them, but the silver definitely...

New to Forum, new to V3, first impressions, questions

Another day of practice with the V3. Much better results today -- I think I'm starting to learn to tell good stuff from trash! Finding a few good things always helps. I ran mostly in "coin" mode today. The bad: A mower tooth (from a horizontal farm mower). Several pieces of cast...

    larry/Il

I've been digging lots of bottle caps, too, and the analyze graph is a big help. So is the pinpoint display -- if you're pinpointing and your green (bottom) bar isn't the strongest one, you're probably looking at a bottle cap. I have seen a few bottle caps that will hit hardest on green...
