    Got the QDP coming

I've been liking the LRP so much I just ordered the QDP as to have two Dave Johnson machines with different coils that interchange. There's not much the LRP won't do and the QDP is a good backup and turn on and go detector to compliment it.

Congrats, FTP, on stopping counterfeiting of Teknetics and Fisher detectors.

One improvement FTP engineers can quickly do to improve the BH Pro line

The one thing that bothers me on the new LRP, and I believe is just a software change, is that the segment word ID (Iron, foil, 5 cents, etc) flash on with the 3 bar segment ID icon, and the screen goes blank 3 seconds later. I would like to see the words stay on during the hunt. When turned on...

FTP and confusing coil setup and cost (explain this one)

I now have a LRP that comes with the 11" DD coil. Finding a concentric coil is frustrating. The BH site says I can use a 10" elliptical concentric model 10coil-BH. I can find only one and it's when you purchase the Quick Draw Pro, it comes standard. A BH 10coil-F5 coil costs $169 that is used on...

A funny thing with the LRP

I did a quick air test on the Land Ranger Pro when it arrived today. I was impressed to find that in C (coins) mode that I could detect average coins at around 7-8". What threw me is that the same test in J (jewelry) mode picked up the same coins about 1 and 1/2" further, close mto 10". I get...

    Questions on hunting times/conditions

I have almost always hunted my parks around 10 AM, before it gets too hot, or on colder days when things warm up and the day is usually clear of rain. Today the ground is quite wet from constant downpours last night. Is there any advantage of detecting when the ground is soaked? I guess it...

    What's the difference?

Bounty Hunter Platinum on EBay new for $299 with ergonomic handle Teknetics 6000 Gamma on Ebay new for $499 with typical S handle They look almost exactly the same with same features except the BH has a handle system found on more expensive units and at $200 less.

    Whoa. What a difference.

I got my CoinGT today. After installing the 8 batteries, I took it out in the yard for a test. First, after 15 minutes, my arm began to tire from the extra pound of weight over my F5. Second, the multitone feature started to go nuts over most that was in the ground. I'm sure it's junk, as I...

My Coinmaster GT came fast and well packaged. Thanks, Lee.

    Well, finally got a Whites

I sold my Fisher F5 to tnrob and bought SC Dirt Fishers Coinmaster GT. I kind of wanted the MX5, but for the $135 difference, it left me in shape to buy another coil (I'm retired and not wealthy). I wanted to get the NEL sharpshooter for the GT, but the add says good for Coinmaster, Coinmaster...

    MX5 questions

Thinking about trading off the F5 and coils for a MX5. 1. Anyone have any idea why NEL doesn't make their line of coils for it? 2. I heard it hits iron hard, and comes through even if notched out. True? 3. Some have complained about the threshold hum breaking, rising and lowering when metal...

A good site to bookmark (for coin hunters)

An easy navigation of wholesale US coin prices from the beginning. US coin values (wholesale) The last update was 9-1-2014, so it's kept pretty current.

    Oh No. I'm thinking again........and that's dangerous.

I've been exploring the Whites MX5. My reasoning is to get something as close to possible as my F5, that is more turn on and go. In my older age (65) I find myself grabbing the F2 for that reason. The F5 doesn't have a memory and I have to GB it to start. The cons of a Whites (IMO) is that most...

Share your wisdom in detecting as to help others.

Lesson 1 To maintain early privacy, make sure any onlookers, hear you shouting "Outta here, damn snake!" during your ground balancing procedure. Lesson 2 Under the Laws of Murphy, if there is a small stone hidden in the grass, you have an 86% probability that your right knee will find it...

A funky way to find a coin

Went out to the park last Thursday and am trying to figure something out. I took the F2 and started swinging. During the hunt, I got a hit on a cent. The F2 said it was 5-6" down and I PP the spot, centered over the concentric 8". I usually PP right on. I took the Lesche out and dug my plug (I...
