    Advice - farm field hunting

There's a 350 acre farm I pass on the way to and from work which I stopped by after work today. There were some hunters with geese decoy's out that morning. I talked to the owner explaining to him briefly about my hunting hobby. He gave me the thumbs up to hunt the corn fields during October...

Presidential memorial/stat coin? Old Tippecanoe himself, W H Harrison

Ok, going to post this here and the Etrac err, I mean explorer section. I dug a copper coin/token today on land that dates back to the 1800's but the section I dug this was near some apple trees, an old barn. The more recent "farm" section of the land. The pictures suck, the coin is...

I dug a copper coin/token today on land that dates back to the 1800's but the section I dug this was near some apple trees, an old barn. The more recent "farm" section of the land. The pictures suck, the coin is basically behaving...

First hunt at old mill site/farm site

Across the street from me is a small stream during the 1800's there were probably 4+mill sites up and down the 3/10's of a mile road I live on. I got permission to hunt a large section of property a long time ago. I last visited this site early spring, I got a huge case of poison ivy, and I...

Hunt at a Church circa 1900 Part V

Well, my fifth visit at my church had me going 5 for 5 finding silver I'm happy to report! Despite rain the day before, the ground was fairly dry, I opted not to dig in the front where I had been finding pretty much all older coins and lots of silver. I hunted the side, the back, and under a...

Where do you detect on the beach?

As a veteran of two beach hunts , I am always wondering if I'm hitting the right area of the beach. I break up the beach into different "bands" of beach moving away from the ocean. The one closest to the ocean is the wet sand during all tides. The next band would be wet/semi wet...

Surprise find when I got home from the beach today

So I took off this afternoon to do a little bit of beach detecting. It's only my second time, so I still dug a decent amount of bottle tops and pull tabs, but I'm getting better at ignoring some of the more obvious signals. The earring to the left has no mark on it, so I don't think it is...

Hunt at a Church circa 1900 Part IV

Well, the wife visited her parents on Sunday, so I went metal detecting! :detecting: This is my 4th time visiting our Church, each time delivering silver, this time was no exception. The amazing part is that there is very little clad in the ground. The Church is Baptist/Congregrational, I...

The good, the bad, and the ugly - 2 hour hunt with SEF 12X15 Yields silver, and a scalped Indian

NOTE: Sorry to those who read this in the Minelab section, I wouldn't normally double post, I had meant to post it here and realized this morning where I had posted it. I had posted my other 2 outings to this Church here. Well, I received my EXcelerator SEF 12X15 coil late last week. I haven't...

The good, the bad, and the ugly - 2 hour hunt with SEF 12X15 Yields silver, and a scalped Indian

Well, I received my EXcelerator SEF 12X15 coil late last week. I haven't had much time to play around with it, mostly some above ground testing/training, and some sand/beach areas. So far so good, I was a bit worried about pinpointing with such a large coil, but a few clad filled volley ball...

My Son taking the SE for a spin last weekend! :twodetecting:

Well my Son was asking to detect this weekend, being three years old he's "helped" me on other occasions to dig some of my finds. Most times he'll grab one of my digging tools and start to wreck various parts of the yard! Anyway, I got him all decked out and my wife snapped some pictures. He...

Caught someone night hawking my coin garden!!!! :veryangry:

So I'm relaxing earlier this evening, just as the sun started going down. I'm watching TV in the living room, and I swear I am hearing a beeping sound. It sounded like my metal detector going off, so I check the back room where I keep it. No it wasn't on. I didn't think anything of it and...

Saturday hunt at a Church circa 1900

Well, I got permission from the pastor at my church to hunt and took advantage of my son being with the grandparents yesterday. I was out for about 3 hours, probably hunted for 2. The pastor and his kids stopped by and I gave them a quick lesson in metal detecting. One of them even found a...

Hunt 3 at the button grave yard park

Well, went out for a couple hours today to see what I could find at a local park that has given up some Civil War relics. Last few outings I've found an officers button, coat weight buttons, flat top buttons, a cuff button for a military band, a cuff button for the PW&B railway, a...

    Relic Hunting advice

Recently I began serious conversations with a friend at work who's neighbor owns 122 aces, a portion of which was used as an artillery firing range during the civil war. There is a large steep hill where theoretically the cannons were placed. At the top and back a ways are several cellar holes...

    Lead and ceramic "spout"

Hi, does anyone have any idea what this item is? My theory is it may be the spout to a heavy ceramic piece used to melt lead down to pour into molds. I've found civil war era buttons at the same location this was found.
