Two things Iearned on my first 2011 hunt

The first thing I learned is that the ground is not thawed everywhere. Most places it is like rock about 2 inches down. The second thing I learned is that where it is thawed it is MUDDY. Then it strted to rain but I did find 1 pull tab, 1 beer can, 1 nickle and 1 dime. And so it begins for...

Hooray...finally got out for the first time this year!

Still lots of snow on the ground but surprisingly, the ground is completely thawed where it's bare. You guys thought I didnt know what I was doing but I pulled 9 nails out of one hole. So there! That will teach you to doubt my skill! MrGee

Is the sun still where it should be?

It's been a while since we've seen it and I was just wondering if that earthquake in Japan might have changed something. Also, we were supposed to have a good view of the northern lights the last couple of nights but it's been so overcast that we saw nothing of them. Sorry fro this off topic...

Emergency measures from the grocery store

In your neighborhood grocery store, near the Ziplock bags and the saran wrap, there is a product that is made to cover food containers. They look like minature shower caps with the elastic around the bottom. if you manage to find the right size, they fit perfectly over the control box of your...

    Anniversaries

Last Thursday (the 24th) was 1 year since I bought my Ace250. This coming Sarurday (Mar 5) will be 1 year since I had it out for the first time. I'm afraid I won't make it by the 5th this year since we are 20 inches of snow above average and still have a lot of it on the ground. Not gonna...

    I'm TRYING to think spring

Our forecast of 8 to 12 inches of snow yesterday and last night turned out to be closer to 15 inches. Hard to say since the wind was moving it around a lot. My snow blower didn't even make it out of the garage before it broke a belt. Fortunately I have a REAL nice neighbor who let me borrow...

    Counting the days

I've been counting the days until the ground is once more diggable. Uhhh...forecast for today and tonight here in Wisconsin is for 8 - 12 inches of new snow, with high winds. sigh! MrGee

Anybody still waiting for their Garrett calendar?

Walked into my favorite coin shop the other day, who happens to be the Garrett dealer. What to my wondering eyes should appear, but a large stack of Garrett calendars on top of a new Ace 350. I'm happy to say that I took one of the calendars but sorry to say I left the 350 where it was...

Supposed to be in the 40's by next week

I don't believe that we've seem the 40's since before Christmas and for the last couple of weeks it's been below 0 every night (and some days). It'll be nice to see decent temps again, but sadly the ground will still be frozen pretty deep. Maybe I'll hit the local sledding hill though. I...

I feel like I'm not contributing, so...

...DarrellB's gold coin inspired me to dig around in my 'keepsakes' and I found this:

    2009 Nickles

Someone on one of the other forums mentioned that the mint made very few nickles and dimes in 2009 and as a result they are already in demand by colectors trying to fill up their little books. Since I had recently bought 20 rolls of nickles and hadn't taken them back to the bank yet, I went...

    Keep posting your finds folks

with over half of us out of commission due to the season, it's a lot quieter on here than it was a few months ago and we look forward to seeing that SOMEONE is still in business. So keep posting those finds...I'll even happily look at your pull tabs! Lordy but winter is boring. Can"t wait...

Took my video camera to the sledding hill...

Recorded the hill and the traffic patterns in the snow. Now next spring, I'll be able to remember where the paths were and concentrate on those first. MrGee

Surprise in a roll of pennys

Bought 10 rolls of pennys a little while ago and much to my surprise, the first roll I opened, out rolled an Aussie nickle. It's a 1976 and it has what looks like some sort of satanic symbol on the back. It's probably an Aussie animal of some sort but it sure looks like some demon from the...

One of the other forums has a thread going: what's the most interesting thing you ever found ON TOP of the ground

There were some interesting responses..several had found weapons and two or three claimed to have found dead people. Anybody have a good story to pass the time?

Been watchin them tear down an old building

Place was a tavern for at least 40 years and the building may have been much older than that. Watched them tear it down last week and clear the rubble. Went down there today and they have a chain link fence around the whole thing. All that freshly turned bare dirt!! MrGee

Need some advice from some of you old hands at this

I swore that before spring comes I will have a larger coil to go with the 250 and the sniper. Would I be better served by the 9x12 accessory coil for the 250 or the new 8 1/2x11 DD that came out with the 350? I keep waffling back and forth on this but I'd like to decide soon. I trust you...
