More on the sef 12x15 on my gt

My first impressions were mixed but I'm liking it more and more. Tried it on some less mineralized beaches and it really worked nicely. It seemed to me that the sensitivity setting is more critical with the sef than with the 10 inch tornado. I did find that lower settings like 4:30 to even lower...

First day with Sun Ray pro golds on gt

I've been using Eagle ($60) head phones on my gt for about 6 months, but today I got to try my new pro golds (at the beach). What a difference! I always figured the eagles were fine since I dig almost everything anyway, but the pro golds are much nicer. Much more comfortable, stay put better...

My experience with sef 12x15 on a gt

I've used the sef 12x15 on my gt to work the wet sand for awhile now. It sure does cover the real estate much faster than the 10 inch tornado but other than that, I seem to prefer the tornado. With the sef I often have a target disappear in the hole after the first scoop or two. I know it's...

    Sand scoop vs barber dime

Was at a beach that seemed totally clean of coins and pull tabs. Got a signal but it was stuck in a crevice in somewhat soft sandstone about an inch deep. Would never have guest it was a barber dime, especially in this obviously "worked out" beach. Used my diamond head scoop to get at it but...

best shaft for hip mount gt

I've been using a hip mount gt with a 12x15 sef for the beach and was wondering how to improve on the stock shaft. I know Critterhunter made a super light gt, but it was shaft mounted. What I want is the best option in a shaft for a hip mounted gt with a 12x15 sef. I've read that one guy prefers...

    Cleaning up clad

OK so I know I should tumble the coins separately but..I just want to cash out about 3 mason jars of clad through a coin star machine. Can I put em in a 5 gallon bucket with ammonia or something? The coins are from the beach and the pennies are caked with sand, and the rest have crud on em also...

Cleaning up silver rings from the beach

I found this ring at the beach the other day. Could barely tell it was a ring. Soaked it in Tarn-ex for a couple hours, scrubbed it with salt and baking soda, then polished it with a Dremel tool with Tripoli and then rouge. Photos don't do this ring justice. How do you all clean up your silver...

    Koss equalizer

Just read about an equalizer called the "Koss EQ 50 3 band stereo equalizer"( $20). Supposedly you can change the tone by "uping" the bass. Anyone out there tried this thing? I'll probably spring for $20 just to try it but I was curious as to what others have to say. Thanks Jim

    Strange "coin" from the beach

Found this at a beach in So Cal along with a walking liberty half dollar , 4 silver dimes (2 mercury) and a St christopher pendant. For all I know it could be from Disnyland. Thanks, Jim

    Recording tones on my gt

So what if a person was to somehow put an audio recorder microphone inside his headphones and record the sound of a target. Then after retrieving the target, put the same headphones into the recorder and play back the tones so that he can more easily remember what that particular target sounded...

where to buy a 12x15 sef for gt

    Nice pair of boots

Someone on this forum mentioned he uses "alpha lite" boots by Lacrosse. I got the 5 ml ones, and they are really awesome. In the summer I hunt barefoot but now it's to cold for bare feet. These boots keep my feet very warm and dry and are very comfortable. For hunting wet sand and wading for...

    auxiliary handle for sand scoop

Saw a post here about the Motus grips for sand scoops. I bought the "D-Grip" and the "T-Grip" from Green Heron Tools, (very nice people). I'm using a Diamond Head scoop with a fiberglass handle so just welding a T handle wont work. I put the Motus T grip down about a foot above the basket...

    sony mdrv 150

I've been wondering if my $60 eagle headphones were hampering my ability to hear tones on my gt, but didn't want to shell out the $120 for a set of pro golds...So I bought the $20 set of sonys because of what I've read on this forum. The sound from the sonys is much, much better than the eagles...

    Discriminating pennies with a gt

Thanks to a lot of good input on a previous thread (by the way thanks everyone), I am curious if it is possible to discriminate pennies from the beach (or land) using a meter, tone, all metal or whatever with a gt. I have been digging quite a few pennies at the beach lately (sometimes a think...

    cherry picking silver

Left the beach alone today and went to an old park (for San Diego that is). Hunted the way I do at the beach, dig pretty much everything, no disc. After a couple hours I had a gold plate ring, 20 pieces of junk, eight clad coins and a 1953 wheaty. O K so... the wheaty means there's probably...

simple mod for gt hip mount bag

I use the black hip mount bag for my gt and the top of the box seems to tilt in toward my body making the knobs and switches awkward to get at (especially the power knob). Today I found a small bungee cord 11 inches long (while detecting). I hooked one end to the plastic part that the strap...

    balancing hip mount gt

My hip mounted gt with 10 inch tornado still seemed heavy to me. I have it set to medium length and my elbow is right in the middle of the arm cuff. I noticed that it seemed to balance better if I curled my pinky finger (of my swinging arm) under the shaft. Then I thought, why not raise the...

    weight of a stock gt

Just weighed my gt. Stock everything. 10 in tornado coil (and cover) no hip mount bag or headphones (plus a little tape to hold the coil wire to shaft)...................5 pounds exactly weighed on a certified digital scale. Hope this helps critterhunter. Least I could do for all the info I've...
