Choice of coils for different uses for MXT?

I have the 5.3 (6"), 9.5" and 5" excellarator coils for the MXT. Questions: (1) which coil (eliptical, DD, etc) is best for coin hunting; ((2) Which coil (eliptical, DD, etc) is [b]best[b] for relic hunting? Brand names, types, etc. ? Price not an object. Do I have the best already, or is...

First hunt with CZ20-on dry land

This think is a coin hunting fool. I found 50 coins and one large $1.00 Centinnial token for my home town of Franklinton, LA. Coincidentally, it was 1961, when I was a high school sophmore at age 17. I found the token at my old High School along with all the other coins: 1 quarter, 4 clad...

    CZ20 questions

I have recently acquired a CZ20, but need to know whether I can disconnect from the control box the cord to the coil. I don't want to make it nonwaterproof by doing so, but the cord is not tightly wrapped around the stem. Must I wrap it by taking the coil off the clevis, or can I unbolt it from...

Questions about CZ 20 underwater machine

I just acquired an almost like new CZ 20, but I don't understand for sure whether I can un-bolt the coil cord at the control box. I don't want to prevent it from being used underwater. The instructions I printed off the internet don't explain that question. Secondly, are the small round...

Trouble with ground balance on wet salt sand

I made several hunts on the beaches of Cancun last week, and found the MXT to do very well in DRY white sand, but miserably in wet sand (salty). I tried every trick in Jeff's book, to no avail. Discriminate setting would not work AT ALL in the wet sand. I tried Relic with all options: salt...

Wireless headphones for freedom during digging

I just now posted a reply on the Garrett's forum, relative to the Radio Shack wireless headphone set #33-1253. Please see my post on the Garrett forum a few minutes ago for more details. I have mounted the transmitter or "dongle" (why that name?) to the left side of my MXT with two-sided foam...

Is Metal detecting on the beach legal in Cancun, MX?

Maybe you guys/gals can answer this question. I'd be on the beach near the builtup area with condo's and hotels, not looking for ancient artifacts which will send me to a mexican jail for the rest of my life! Any ideas? Thanks.

Legal to Med. detect on beach in Cancun?

We will be staying in a condo in the builtup section of the peninsula, and I wonder if anyone has firsthand knowledge of whether it is legal to use my MXT on the beach near the motels/condos. I would not be hunting ancient stuff, just coins and jewelry along the beach. I need to be sure before I...

How do you clean your coins?

I'm not doing so well cleaning the coppers, zincs or clads. So how do you clean your without removing the metal? The soil in Louisiana eats zinc like I eat Pizza, and the clads turn very dark. Thanks!

    Explorer II

How much real difference is there in the Explorer II and the Explorer SE ? Is the E II a really good machine, or would it be worth while to buy a new SE instead of a like-new EX. II? I read the company ads about improvements between the later SE and the II, but I would like to know what you...

Anyone using 5" round Excelerator DD coil?

I have used the White's 5.3" coil with some success, and I do like it, but I want a coil to have more separation and a positive signal even when a coin and iron/liftab are superimposed, one over the other. Any good or bad comments on this excelerator (#134-5W)? Any other experience? Thanks.
