Just Had a Very Eye-Opening Experience With My Explorer II...Long, But Worth The Read.

And that experience was right in my backyard! I have a test garden, running along the rear of my backyard in front of my privacy fence. I have about a dozen targets buried out there, about 3 feet out from the fence and at least 3 feet apart. All along the fence I marked with a Sharpie pen...

    Another Day, Another Silver...

My buddy Jack and I went and hit a couple of new spots, looking for some silver action. We struck out at one and struck a little at another very trashy site. But we both hit silver. He got a '43 Merc and a '43 Rosie in the same hole, stuck together. And another silver Rosie, a 1950 I think...

    A Short But Silver-Worthy Hunt

Went out for a little bit today to the same house I hit last weekend where I got two '52 silvers...a quarter and a dime. Today I managed to snag a 1919 Merc. Other than a smoked wheatie and a couple 60's memorials, that was the only worthwhile target. The place has been hunted hard and I...

A Few Good Finds From Yesterday And Today

Went out and hit a few spots yesterday with my buddy Darren. We didn't get much but I managed a few pieces of lead and a couple wheaties. The stuff was all deep and the tiny bullets amazed me when I finally got to them and saw how small they were. They can be a lot of work! Here's my stuff...

Out Digging Some holes Today...Got A Few Keepers

Went and did a little peanut farm digging today and also to a large old grassy field that has yielded quite a few CW buttons and bullets over the years. I was running IM -16 with sensitivity at 28 and had a nice threshold most of the time...not bad for a 12.5" coil. The ground at both spots...

One Little, One Little, One Little...

...Indian. Went out today to a BEAT TO DEATH :rage: old home site, a little place we call "The Barber House" that has yielded MANY a sweet find over the years. It's only been hunted about 150 times by a dozen different people with 18 or so different machines, but somehow it always...

First Explorer II Silver Of 2006...A Slow Start, But I'll Take It!

Hit the same spot from yesterday again today...HUGE field that contains old bulldozed military housing. If there is a HELL for metal detectorists, it would have to be like this. :) SO much trash...everywhere. But if you're willing to play the Easter Egg hunt game, there are a few good targets...

Explorer II Bags A Few Keepers

Happy new year everybody! It's been a while since I posted here. I hunted the beach all summer with my Excal and a little, early on, with the Explorer II. And I haven't gotten out much this fall so far, but hope to change that henceforth. I went out with my buddy Darren today, to an old...

Attention Virginia Beach Hunters: Help Requested For Lost Ring

Hi folks. I was at a Christmas Eve church service and met a fellow who heard that I metal detected. He related that his wife had lost a ring during the summer of 2003 in the vicinity of 47th street at the oceanfront. The ring is probably silver, though could be white gold...he wasn't...

Haven't Been To The Beach Lately...

...I'm watching you guys so I know when the time is right. Been doing the land hunting thing, as I know some in here also do. I just had a fellow who deals in Civil War items pay me $95 for a button that I found...I shipped it yesterday. It's worth a little more than that to the right...

Explorer II Snags A Nice Pre-Civil War Naval Button

I took the Explorer II out today to a field I've hunted many times. It has turned up numerous Civil War bullets, buttons, a few nice silver coins, and even some Colonial flat buttons in the past. Lately it hasn't turned up much. I've been hunting it on and off for about 5 years. Today I had...

    I Found Some Treasure Today...

...in a box that FedEx brought me. My new motorcycle seat! The bike is almost done now. Next will be a fresh coat of gloss black on all the stuff that's black now. The tank will probably stay red...I like the combination. I'm including a pic at the end of how it was when I got it from the...

Well, I Agonized About Whether To Go To The Beach Last Night Or Not...

And I wound up going and glad that I did. Hit the surflane for the 12:45 low tide. Got out there at 11:15 and hunted until about 1:15. There were no other hunters there. There were darn few targets there. And then I hit a pretty hot area...coins everywhere. It was right at about 12th...

Two And A Half Hours In The Lane And Not A Lot To Show...

It was very rough and very windy...I would have thought Rita was coming here, if I didn't know better. I hit one hot spot, about a block-long cut that produced clad. I had to work the incoming surf for that. I was hopeful a ring or two would pop somewhere in there, but not to be. By the...

OK, This Is WAY Off Topic...But Hopefully It Will Be Of Interest To Some...LONG.

One year ago today, a lot of the folks on this forum expressed their concern and well-wishes when they heard that I had been rushed to the ICU, suffering a major heart attack. Tonight is a special milestone for me

Yes, The Surf Lane IS Bleak...And Yet, Lady Luck Still Smacked Me In The Head With Her Golden Wand.

I don't think I've ever seen our beach so devoid of targets at this time of year...it's like the middle of winter, where you can go a 1/4 mile without a signal. But as I was telling an out-of-towner tonight...it's sanded in, but there are still a few good finds out there. I got to the beach at...

    2AM Spin Down The Lane...

...snags some 14K and a belly ring! But not a whole lot else. It was really quite bleak...very sanded in, disturbing lack of targets. I came down to do a 2 to 5 AM hunt for a 3:42 low tide. I ended up packing it in after 2 hours...it just wasn't happening. The gold charm was in about 2...

Low Tide Hunt...Fairly Bleak, But Did Hit a Gold ring.

Hit the lane from about 1 to 5 am. Bleak is a good word for it. Did hit a little clad hot-spot and also managed the thin 10K band, so not a total loss.
