    I know it's very difficult to hit gold at that setting. Some come in around a nickel. But it seems most came in just above iron and below foil.

    Did you try dialing out the iron ? Wide open disc it'll hit iron all day.

    Do you have any soldering experience ? Caps are not difficult to replace. Polarity and size are the important part to know. Most of today's caps are of much higher quality.
