Finds just be fore the hard freeze.

Went to a park that had 3 houses previously. Found old stuff there in the past. Picked through the iron dumped in the far back. Found the locked end of a wooden barrel coin bank from the 1920s-1930s. No pile of coins left behind. Found a pic of what it looked like online. The aluminum badge is...

    Christmas road trip finds

The more I use the 3030, the more I learn. I’m always trying new programs, sometimes several during one hunt. 2 coil sizes too.

    Christmas road trip finds

In my secret town, every time it rains, it exposes more marbles, buttons, and stoppers.

    Christmas road trip finds

It’s rare when I go to my secret town and not find silver and a V nickel.

    Christmas road trip finds

I hope everyone had a great holiday. My time with the family was a happy affair with no drama. I started my trip the day after Christmas. My first stop was a site I’ve hit before with lots of buried tin cans, not aluminum. Found lots of old relics here. It’s the pic with the large toy yellow...

    Translation help needed!

The word ‘yellow’ leads me to believe there was an outbreak of yellow fever on this train. Must have been a long train ride through multiple countries. There were huge outbreaks in European cities beginning with the trafficking of African slaves. Once railroads were established, it made it much...

    Two mini flat buttons.

You can never have two mini flat buttons! A joke only a detectorist could love.

    Translation help needed!

It’s not legible enough for my translator to read. Can you rub a piece of brass over the top to clean just the surface of the text? Then barely moisten a rag with olive oil, just enough to wipe only the surface of the text so that it stands out dark against the light background. Take another...

    Medallion

I thought maybe a cover for a hidden key hole. Maybe for a small chest. I couldn’t find anything like it online. The brass tabs on the back had to hold something down. Leather strap with a buckle? I like it, whatever it is.

    half dime

It’s not a negative but I tried it again in black.

    half dime

I connected the dots and showed the cuts. Ignore the squiggle in the upper right area. I fat-fingered that. Can you make out anything?

    New field

Is the small coin above the spoon a silver dime? It looks like it has a shiny edge. Don’t throw that stuff away or you’re throwing away $$$. I save brass, copper, aluminum, and lead in separate buckets. I make over $200 twice a year at the metal recycler.

    Back out to the pasture

Is that token a Studebaker Electric?! They made electric cars from 1992-1912! That’s awesome! Hit that thing with a steel brush and it will bring out some of the details.

A Few More Finds Before Winter Slammed the Door

What you think is a bale seal is probably a boxcar seal. I think it’s from the AM.RY.EX.CO. Do a little research and you might find an American Railway Express Co. that merged into the American Railway Express Agency during WWI. There were several Express companies before WWI using railroads...

    World’s Fair token

Here’s an example of an aluminum token from the 1878 Paris World’s Fair. I’m thinking mine isn’t from a Paris Fair since all the text is in French.

    Thanksgiving hunts in west Texas.

I've always wanted to go hunting in west Texas but never got around to it until I had a few days off during Thanksgiving. I don't really recommend it since it was the most boring trip I've ever taken and there's nothing good to eat out there. The first pick is from a spot I’ve been to twice...

    World’s Fair token

I’ve tried searching for this token on line with no luck. Haven’t tried any official token books or databases. Would like to know which World’s Fair this might have been. France hosted in 1855, 1858, 1861, 1867, 1878, 1889, and 1900. Kinda looks like Napoleon III. Aluminum. Found in far west...

    Strange bullet shape

Found this projectile in far west Texas. Did someone just repurpose this bullet?

Just got a new rumbler for cleaning wow!

Here’s one of my secret weapons. Electric ice cream maker. Take out the stirring mechanism. Lean it over about 45deg or so. Throw in a bunch of filthy, crusty coins. Turn it on for however long you can stand it. It makes its own grit with all the dirt coming off. Rinse and dry. Good enough...
