    Coin check was on the Troy Shadow detector. It would discriminate out things with lower conductivity than copper US cents. It would discriminate out most Indian head cents as well as zinc cents and nickles.

    Wonder if they even test them after manufacturing. Testing takes time and time is money. If they have very few issues on newly made ones, they may not test them. Good luck getting it sorted out!

    I stopped using coil covers a long time ago because of experiences with stuff getting in and adversely affecting detection. The most used coils get a good cleaning and a coat of marine epoxy applied as added protection. Hope it all goes well!

    Try using it someplace else entirely to see if it is a local interference issue. That should tell you very quickly if it is that specific unit that is faulty or not. Heck, take it outside where you live and to the nearest open area.

    Good luck with the quest for an 8 inch coil. They seemed to disappear as soon as Minelab stopped delivering the Excalibur with the 8 inch coil. I see coil covers for the 8 inch that people are asking over $30 for ... just silly money for a little coil cover!

    That key looks like the front door key from our house that was just off the Magothy ... I don't recall losing one, maybe one of the kids did. All four kids were up and down the Magothy in the canoe quite a bit and swimming in several places too. LOL
