A strange Wheat and 2 Indians

Got permission (again) to a place that I had detected YEARS ago. Still in the same family, but they have moved out. Vacant 100 year old farm house on 83 acres. Oh yea! So... First 2 digs are the Indian Heads. Man is the ground hard! Good thing they weren't too deep. A Memorial and clad dime...

FIVE silvers today brings year total up to 20!

Hunted a buddy's yard today. Front yard was all modern coinage and a few trinkets. The back yard was all oldies. Three wheats, 2 Mercs, 2 war nickels, and a silver Washington Quarter. That one was my 20th of the year. Both war nicks are mintmarked "S", but I cannot make out the years on either...

    Question about technique/settings... Input please!

Okay, I have recently discovered the value of hunting in 99 tones mode with very little discrimination (only notching out -4 and -2). What is everyones feeling about this? I know "to each his own" applies and it is a matter of preference, but I totally now understand what everyone was talking...

Finally a RING! Sterling, but heavy and I'll take it!

The XTerra 70 has been very good to me lately... not to mention I have a nice new spot to go hunt that I've had my eye on for a while. Tonight, I pulled this nice Sterling ring out of the ground. No dents, chips, or loose stone. Overall in great condition! I'm sure the stone is just a...

    Slave Shackles???

Dug these about 10 feet away from the slave house that is on the property I am currently detecting. There is also a blacksmith shop on this property so I believe the owner forged these himself. They were about 6 inches deep, and I see similarities between these and pics online. Too light be to...

First silver and wheat of 2009

Got out for a quick hour or so hunt today. Decided to check out a place that I have hit several times over with my Ace 250 and had found a boatload of wheats and several silver coins. So curious, I headed out with the XTerra 70 to see what I had missed. First target was the 50's wheat. Made me...

Finally got out... a little clad.

Nothing worth posting pics about, but the sun was shining and the temp was in the 50's. Needed to go out and try this XTerra 70 that's been sitting in the living room beckoning me! Hoped to score some old stuff today where I went but no such luck. Came away with 1 quarter, 1 dime, 9 pennies...

First trial run out with the X70

Well, I did manage to get out Thursday after my meeting. I had about 2 hours to mess around. Headed south and immediately got turned around due to a detour from a bad wreck. 40 minutes deducted from 2 hours. Get to my site and and the lovely lady that owns the property hadn't seen me in a while...

    Today should be the day!

The temp is supposed to be up in the 40's this afternoon with sunshine nonetheless! I have a supervisor meeting from 1400 - 1600 this afternoon, and work tonight from 2000 - 0600. But if all goes well, I will be out trying the XTerra 70 from about 1630 til close to 1800. Planning on going to an...

    It has arrived!

The new XTerra 70 showed up today! Of course, it's snowing and 20 degrees outside with accumulating snow expected tomorrow adn sub zero temps later in the week. Guess I will watch the DVD (again!).

I, too, am awaiting the arrival of my new XT 70!

Should be here Tuesday, just in time for snow and high temps in the teens. Boy do I have great timing! Anyway, thanks to all who had some input on this. I can't wait to go back to the local World War I training center park, the 1818 cabin, and the old turn of the century swimming hole /...

    Getting ready to purchase

After lots of research, and talking to several fellow detectorists, I have decided to purchase the Minelab X Terra 70. I've been in the hobby for about 8 years or so, and haven't had much opportunity over the past year to detect. Well, that's changing this year! I love my Garrett Ace 250, but I...

Friday mornings hunt with the Ace 250

Hit my 1818 cabin site for a change. One thing I have learned over the past couple of weeks about the Ace 250 and older sites.... GO SLOW! Man, you'll miss alot of good targes if you go too fast. I've been over this yard a few times, but now I've learned to slow way down! Here's the results...

    More silver this morning...

Using the Ace 250. It sure does like the coins! Dropped the kids off where they needed to be and was at my playground site at about 8:30 AM. The rain decided to stay east of us, and other than a stiff breeze, it was a nice morning to dig! Temp was about 65... very warm for this time of the year...

Got out for a little while Friday morning...

Had a ROUGH night of work, so me and the Ace 250 headed out for some relaxing down-time. Turned out to be a good hunt! [attachment 10262 11042005allfinds.jpg] 1 Buffalo (1936) 1 Jefferson (1982) 1 Mercury (1941 - and in great shape!) 1 Roosie (1954) 6 Wheats 1 Memorial [attachment 10263...
