    Moving to Kansas City, MO

Ill be leaving Central Virginia and moving to KC, MO soon. Anyone out that way on this forum? I pretty much only hunt relics and have had a great time here in VA. I can go out and find at least a few bullets almost anytime, however the competition here is at an all time high. Its hard to find...

Bird Picture - Sure wish I had a BIGMA or similar

Used my Canon 70-200L IS for this. Hand held at 200MM, IS on. I had to crop and blow it up quite a bit. I may try a doubler on it soon. With the image stabilzation it should be ok even 2 stops slower. Should be my cheapest way to get to 400MM.

Fredericksburg National Cemetery Memorial Day Weekend

Im not sure what to do about the color balance on this one. I cant just do an over all change because of the mixed light. Open sky, candles, different types of artificial light. Here it is anyhow. 15 second exposure. Canon 20D Tokina 12-24MM

    Instantaneous Photography

Well thats what they called it back then. I took this last weekend with a one second exposure. Thats about as fast as it gets with wet plate.

    Hurricane Season

With hurricane season starting I wanted to ask a question about beach hunting. What makes the beach good or bad after a storm? If a hurricane goes up the east coast will it always take sand out or does it sometimes bring it in? Im in Virginia and would like to do some ocean beach hunting. Im...

    Anyone looking for a Coinstrike?

First off, if you need me to move this to the classifieds just say so Bill. I really like the C$ but Ive not used it in months. Ive been using other brands and my 1266X lately. They seem to work better for me at the sites Ive been hunting lately. I have a Coinstrike in good condition with an...

    Stuck Button

Anyone ever have any of the buttons stick on the Explorer? The back button seems to be stuck or shorted on my XS. I was out in a very light rain the other day and it may have gotten damp. That was 4 days ago though and it still does it. If it was wet I think it would have dried out by now.

Bill and Bobs Finds for Today

Went out to a few places today with Bill Ladd who is here in Virginia for Diggin In Virginia. We didnt find a lot but did get some things. Bill got the best find today with the artillery fuse. Also we came up with a few confederate Gardner bullets. I introduced Bill to our Virginia "hot" ground...

Find a few things today with the Platypus Coil

Used the Platypus coil for the first time today. I like it. Cant really compare it to the other coils right now but it works good and is lighter than the 10.5 inch. My finds: Large cent with no date, a smashed bugle mouth piece (I think), some sort of pin, small caliber musket ball, a piece of...

    Out with the 1266X

I used my 1266X for the first time in a couple of years this past weekend and I have to say the 1266 is still a great detector. Ive had a CZ, I own a C$ and also a Minelab Explorer, dont ban me Bill:) and its was nice to not listen to all the "racket" for once. In good ground I still think the...

A few finds from last weekend

Hunted a friends 1850s farm last week. It was Very difficult to hunt. Targets everywhere. I wish I had at least one coin for every 5 pull tabs, Id have a lot of coins if I did. The 2 cent piece is in pretty nce shape. I used my 5 inch Sunray coil.

    Explorer near power lines

I was out with my Explorer today and was hunting right under power lines. The big towers where you can actually here the lines buzzing overhead. What really suprised me is I had NO noise at all. None. Power was at about 26 and the detector was working very smoothly. Didnt find a great deal, a...

Ive been having trouble with the mini headphone jack on myh XS cutting in and out. Has anyone taken the detdctor apart to rewire this into a quarter inch jack?

Anyone here using SD or GP machines?

I was talking to a friend today who uses an SD2200 and claims it is not bothered by mineralized ground, at all and even in bad ground goes very deep. I know it has minimal discrimination but I only block out nails anyhow and dig everything else when relic hunting. These are gold machines but...

    Eagle I with the Edge

My hunting buddy Bernie found this Eagle I with his Edge this past weekend. We braved the cold temps (teens to lower 20s) to find a few things. Ive been using a Minelab XS lately but I havent given up on Fisher. I still have the C$ and a 1266. After seeing the Edge in action this weekend and a...

    Smaller coil and bad ground

I went to a site that I had a bit of trouble with using the 10.5 inch coil. I couldnt get the detector to hold a steady threshold without using it on semi-auto. Today I went back with an 8 inch coil and was able to hunt with the sensitivity on 26 manual. So... maybe Ive answered my own question...
