    A little Civil war bling

Once in a while a good one comes along, sounded like all the other dozens of rivets and shot gun shell ends around an old home site. 21 mm so it was nice sized coat button.

Breaking in the next generation of treasure hunters.

Grandma and Papa had the little ones for the day and of course we had to go tecting. Royce (7) was thrilled with his Rogers nickel silver tablespoon. Big sister (9) answered with a nice 2-piece button with stars. Papa was surprised with another crotal bell from the same site as the other 2. A...

    Fields are opening up!

Short hunt in the bean stubble produced a few keepers tonight. 88 on the Indian, Number 9 and a 4 on the bells that were only about 20 feet apart. Heart breaker on the Civil war Eagle Button the front was right there but fragmented. Manticore in general with the 9 inch coil.

    One little cuff "I"

Hunting an old cabin site in the nail patch and boy was I surprised when this beauty of a survivor rolled out of the roots and bricks. Mansfield served on the union side and died at the age of 27 in 1864. A little lemon juice was all this one needed.

Now that's what I am talking about

Just a short hunt was all I could do this evening so I hit a cabin within a mile from the house. These early settlers had lost their son at the age of 27 1864 probably from war wounds as he did serve on the Union side. So, in all probability this small button was indeed his. Love saving history...

    Another early silver

My luck held a little longer while randomly swing back to the truck from a house several 10 yds out in the field. I was stopped in my tracks by a sweet high tone, my friends and I watched in amazement while I recovered a silver coin with "one dime" on the back. This is my 3rd 1850,s silver...

More small change and a little bling.

Had a few minutes before church and went to my local dig, a trading post at my local ghost town. The Trime was in the spoil pile, so it had been missed from a previous hunt. after seeing the nail stuck to the side (10 o'clock on the "C") I realized why. The nail broke of leaving a small piece...

    something going on here

Went out for a short hunt tonight at an early home site (1877 platt). Just received a new toy for Valentines day, a M9 coil for the Manticore. Tonight was actually my second outing with the M9, I wanted to see if I could replicate my 1st very successful hunt, and it did not disappoint. Both...

    Small change

Been a while since I dug my last half dime, they are almost as elusive as the trimes. Have to admit this one is in the tops for condition. I had a great time ledge cutting, detecting, and sifting with Jellyman and his boys. The productive layer was running anywhere from 12 to 18 inches deep...

    Team Manticore scores

Weather is still holding, the Mrs. scored the nice 76 and 78 IHP's I popped the crusty 65 Indian. Both using the Manticore on previously hunted sites. No site is ever hunted out but the new technology isn't hurting a bit LOL

    living large

Exceptional weather is holding up for now, so I have been hunting an old ghost town with a new friend. The site is a jumble of brush and multi flora so coverage is 50% at best. Popped the Eagle coat button1st, it has had rough life but still sets the date for the site. I noticed some red brick...

Hey Dave how about this one?

I found this variety very similar to yours. Pretty sure it's a manual door bell with the same patriotic theme. Mine appears to have been in a fire at one time. 1800's house site was its origin.

    Latest lake finds

A couple 1st a Masonic 1st degree pendant that cleaned up really well, and the opening Baby religious pendant. The 14k earing is gold number 4 from this site. Ended up with 5 silvers and numerous coins and other items. The silver came out really black as usual.

Update another item I have never seen posted here

Thanks to Dale we have confirmation on the "lid" It is a tobacco pipe wind guard. I straightened it a bit, but the material is quite fragile so I stopped before it broke. Hinge on one side catch on the other. The edge is scalloped so as to vent as well as the interesting vents on top. Thanks...

Something I have never seen posted here

    Nice Eagle general service Button, a couple flat buttons and 2 toe taps. The open fretwork lid is interesting. The ball I thought was a clay marble turned out to be a Dung beetle {no insects were harmed during this hunt}

Short hunt in the tall grass

It has been really wet here and the options are getting limited, so I headed to a house site in hay production. The grass was 1 to 2 feet tall so getting the coil down was a chore. The small coil on the Manticore did the trick, 20 minutes in and out popped this Fattie Indian. This one had to be...
