Finds from the weekend - Barber, SLQ, Mercs and such

Was off on Friday(Veterans day observance). Nate was in school and Danimal was earning the big bucks. So off I went solo to the place we have code named the Iceberg. Was a nice day and conditions made it enjoyable to hunt. Ended the day with 9 silver and 9 wheats and one Buff. Saturday was...

Broke some records this weekend

Hooked up with a friend Saturday and Sunday. The place we were hunting has been hunted before but from our finds you could tell that not this particular spot on the property. Ended up with 20 silver coins, 5 Buffalo Nickels, and 67 Wheat pennies. Broke my record for most silver and wheats in...

    Smart Find or Digital Display?

Have been using the Exp II for almost two months now - have used it exclusively in Smart Find mode. Anyone use the digital display and if so why? It would seem it would be more teadious to watch "jumpy" numbers than a cursor. Bob

Tables have turned: DFX kicking my Quattro Behind

My son has been doing very well the last week with his DFX. We have gone to some new sites and some hunted sites. He has been digging all the iffy stuff. All the silver coins pictured he has found. Now the two rosies were just by chance that he walked over them as they were only a couple...

    The Alpacuna Coat

Well, don't have any silver but did manage to find a couple keepers. The first was a USB drive - 512MB. Works. Quattro really didn't find it - just happen to be holding the Quattro when I eyeballed it. Second Item also didn't find with the Quattro as I just wanted to do a simple...

    Scouting for some new places

My son and I did a little scouting this weekend for new places. We had to do a bit of driving. Got a tip from a friend at work about a trailer park that was abandoned. It was formerly used as a fairgrounds from 1876 to 1941. Most of the place had been redone and was highly overgrown. Found...

    Hunting with my brother...

Had a family get together for one of my 4 brothers birthday. Happen to be close to one of our recent hunting sites. So when we broke up for the evening one of my brothers(Dan) accompanied us. We have almost picked this place clean. But it was close by so we gave it another go. Dan had not...

    Hunt with Butch in NY

Took a ride out to NY to see how Butch scores all his sweet coins. I must say he is a master Quattro user. I really learned from him. I was also impressed with the sites he has to hunt. They have been hit hard but still keep giving it up. The biggest lesson I learned - hunt slow for anything...

    A quick hunt

Went out yesterday with my son to the local middleschool(1920's). We have hunted this place well so I wasn't expecting much. We only had an hour to an hour and a half. My son went his way and I went mine. After about 40 minutes I had two Mercs and went over to see if Nate had found anything...

Digging the "iffy" signals - Sat & Sun

My Son and I went out Saturday and today. We started the day out on Lake Erie(fishing for Walleye) but with 5 ft waves and rain quickly went back in and grabed the detectors. We have been hunting a school that was built in the late 40's to early 50's. ALL of the silver we have dug from this...

    Memorial Day finds (Saturday's too)

Went out fishing on Saturday. Talked so much about metal detecting that we had to go out for an hour after we got back. Showed my fishing buddy the old 1800

One Room School house hunt & some weekend finds

My son and I hunted at a construction site. Built in 1909. Was the original highschool in the town I grew up in. I think we got here too late as there was about 4+ inches of clay over most parts. The silver dimes and wheat pennies were all found on the "edges" where the construction had not...

    Scored a first!

Saturday my son and I met up with another friend and went detecting. We found a spot next to a redone building that seemed to still have some old stuff. The ground was fairly mineralized and a good bit of iron around. We picked up wheats, clad, misc junk and my son found a couple mercs...

Last weeks jungle trek with pics

Took a long trek back into the woods. This home site has got to be from the 1800's. Trouble is teens and kids have used it for years as a hangout place so trash is all over. Managed to find a few wheat pennies, a couple harness bells(one broken) and a neat "good for 5 cents in trade" token...

    1863 Civil War Token

Nate and I hooked up with Don(Don11971) yesterday. He got permission on a couple places. The first place was in the middle of a corn field. Map showed a home existing in mid 1800s. Found bits of broken glass/china so we were in the general vicinity but did not find anything noteworthy...
