    Brass item from 1812 house site

    This came from a house site in southern Mississippi dating back to 1812. It looks like it was broken off on the left end. Some have suggested that it might be part of a triggerguard for an early flintlock, but it doesn't have any curvature. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
