First Silver of the year with Ace 250

Living in Idaho at 6300', there is still a lot of snow and frozen ground. My step son just rented an old farm house on a very small piece of property in Twin Falls, ID. We went to visit him and as luck would have it, there was no snow and the ground was not frozen. I broke out my Ace 250 and...

    Detecting in the snow

When the ground is frozen, you can always try the snow that has been pushed up in parking lots. I've found lots of clad, but still not the elusive ring or other jewelry. It gives me a reason to swing the detector when the days are not too cold. If you have not tried it, you might be surprised...

One of my Idaho Finds, Anybody Know the History?

This metal is from 1926. It reads "Nautilus Navel Beach" and Gold Metal Club on the back and is dated 1926. I'm still working on cleaning it up. It is going slow, but the gunk is coming off. It was found in front of a small wood cabin from about 1910. I'm pretty sure it is from Florida and may...

Gold and Silver Prices Really Down

Gold and silver have really taken a beating since oil prices have dropped. Silver has taken a bigger hit than gold. Not a good time to dump your metals. If gas hits 6 or 7 dollars a gallon, I'm thinking the metals will take off like no ones business. I don't think the amount of metals I have...

Disappointing First Day Hunt In Idaho

I traveled from Arizona to Idaho to visit family this week. There is a park across the street from my daughters house that once had a K to 12th grade school from the early 1900's. I was really looking forward to some good finds. They made the park beautiful, re sod ed the entire area. It's been...

    The Best Gold Hunting Books

I have bought quite a few books on the subject of gold prospecting. The ones written by Charles Garret are so-so. By far the best books I have read are "The Complete Unabridged Zip Zip by Larry Salle. It is available in an updated version that combines the first two books into one book. It is a...

Comparisons between the X-70 and Gold Bug II

Has anyone had the chance to do a side by side comparison between these two machines. I have and love my X-70. I have the 5 X 10 18.75 and the 6" 18.75 DD coils. I intend to do a lot more prospecting for gold nuggets in the Arizona desert. The Gold Bug II has a good reputation for finding gold...

    X-70 on "Gold Fever"

This weekend's show had ol Tom and his son out on an Arizona claim near the Bradshaws. His son was using an X-70 with the stock coil and found a really nice chispa. Lots of gold on the piece of quartz. Tom was using a ML PI unit and found a smaller one. It sounded like his kid was not using the...

Which is Better ??? Auto GB Question

The areas I hunt tend to be pretty full of trash. My question is, does the constant signals from the trash really allow the auto tracking GB to correctly ground balance or is it hampering the detectors ability to read the ground correctly. I tend to try and find a clear area, GB the detector and...

    117 Degree Hunt Today

Older than Dirt called me and told me of an old bar that had been raised. It was 117 degrees when I left the house and only a couple of degrees cooler when I got there. I found a 1954 d penny, a rosie and a bunch of clad pennies. I didn't stay too long as I think the control box was melting. I'm...

Got my set of Detector Pro "Black Widow" Headphones

Wow, what a difference. I had a set of the cheap set of headphones that came with the detector that I got from Kelly Co. With the Black Widow's, the threshold tone is far clearer and the target tones much sharper. I can hear the faint signals much better also. I highly recommend that anyone who...

    Larger Coils for The X-Terra

I e mailed Minelab USA and AU yesterday asking for them to design and produce a 14 or 15 inch coil for the X-Terras. If enough people e mail Minelab showing interest in a larger coil, they just might develop one. It would really make the X-Terra the most versatile detector on the market and I'm...

    We're Darn Lucky :twodetecting:

I was just looking over the other sections on this forum and went to a couple of the "Classroom" sections. Having the X-Terra 70 is such a joy. Read the FAQFAQ section and the posts by members and go out and detect. Like any detector it takes time to really learn your machine well, but the XT-70...

I'm Kicking Myself In the Butt !!!

I live in Arizona. My wife has been in Idaho for several months helping her daughter through some problems. I took 10 days off work and flew up to see the wife. She told me there was still quite a lot of snow on the ground, so I didn't bring my detector ( I also didn't want to check any luggage...

National Geographic Topo Maps and Google Earth

I found a set of the 50 state Nation Geographic Topo maps for sale on one of the treasure sites for $25.00. I bought them and they are not a bad set of topo's and have some pretty neat features built into the program. The one thing I really like is that you can click on a link from the maps that...

Does Anyone Use The "Black Widow" Headphones ?

I read a review of the Black Widow headphones a short while back and the author really spoke highly of them. He said they seemed to give a sharper response than other headsets he had used. My hearing is a little challenged. I hear better in one ear than the other and my good ear is only good...

    Melting Snow

I'm on vacation in Idaho this week. I live in Arizona. The area I am in Idaho still has most of the ground covered with snow. I didn't bring my detector because I was not checking luggage and didn't want to chance someone from TSA telling me the poles were weapons. I do wish I would have brought...

    I've Got To Thank Kellyco

I know some people don't care for Kellyco, but I have bought 3 detectors from them and a bunch of accessories. I would use a local dealer if I had one nearby, but I don't. I also hate paying state tax on the bigger purchases. Anyway, I ordered the 6" DD coil from them on a Thursday and had...
